2K Sports is freezing hockey on HD consoles in 2010. In a financial call yesterday, Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick announced that 2K Sports is working onNHL 2K11— but only for the Wii. He explained the decision to eschew a PS3/360 version by saying that the development team needs the year off to “refine, redesign and rethink” the game. Take-Two’s December 2009 fiscal report omittedNHL 2K11from the publisher’s list of planned fiscal 2010 releases, which led tospeculationthat 2K Sports had canceled the game altogether....

Monday is usually the day where we’d post a list of Virtual Console, WiiWare, and DSiWare game release that you likely wouldn’t buy. But things are changing around here. Nintendo’s turning a new leaf with the launch of the eShop for the Nintendo 3DS, and it’s shifting its North American download release schedule from Monday to Thursday. So that means we have no new info for you today, but expect more on Thursday, June 16....

It seems that theWii lightsaberhas hit store shelves, at least in Canada (previously, only the UK had seen these bad boys for sale.) Thanks to a covert photographer,Go Nintendoposted a few pics of the sabers this morning sighted at the Canadian store Zeller’s. If you don’t want to wait to buy one, it seems you can order one onlinedirectly from the store’s website. I have to admit to being pretty interested in this peripheral, although I’ll likely wait to pick one up until it’s readily available in the states....

Speaking with gaming site9 Lives, Sucker Punch’s Bruce Oberg has said that the company has no current plans to release downloadable content for its PlayStation 3 exclusive,inFamous, which ships this week. Oberg also mentions that the title, a single-player experience, will not be receiving a multiplayer patch or update. The length ofinFamous’ gameplay has beencalled into question(seriously, 25 is not short!), but I’m here to tell you that the lack of additional content or multiplayer will not hurt this game....

A few people have hit us up to say that Nintendo is bringingSolatorobo: Red the Hunterto North American Nintendo DS systems. Many people are calling the game, localized by XSEED, a hugely underrated gem, so it may be well worth checking out. The game is coming to Europe next week and will hit the States some time later this year. In case you’re wondering, it’s a game about anthropomorphic animals that ride around on robots for some reason....

I’m not going to lie: I don’t have much here. Disney Interactive literally sent me this one picture of the upcoming gameAlice in Wonderland. It looks great, though, and I felt it was nice enough to warrant a post. Disney tells us that this screenshot is in-game art from the upcoming PC game, and it features a sneak peek of the Mad Hatter himself. Will Johnny Depp voice him? We’ll see....

The OnLive cloud-based gaming service has been running for months now and, speaking personally, it’s rather impressive when you have a fast enough connection and it looks pretty good on the PC I have hooked up to my television. But for those who would rather not go to the hassle of going that route, OnLive has said that they will offer a “Microconsole” which will allow users to connect to the service through a little box and controller....

I have to hand it to Ubisoft — the folks responsible for coming up with the title “H.A.W.X. 2” resisted the urge to “cleverly” place the number two inside of the acronym. We wouldn’t want another5nal DestinationorF.3.A.R.on our hands, now would we? I’m not even sure what to comment on here, honestly. It makes sense that they would want to leave out the big list of new features from this first trailer, since there will be plenty of opportunities to cover stuff like that down the road....

So, let’s add this toThe Last StoryandXenobladeas games that serve mostly to frustrate Western fans. LikeXenobladeandThe Last Story, this particular game is looking to push all my buttons. These screens (which were originally intiny direct-feed form) make me think of old, obscure Japanese titles that I used to pick up from GameStation at random....

Because Microsoft can, Microsoft is unleashing downloadable pets over the Xbox LIVE Avatar Marketplace tomorrow. Accordingto Major Nelson, the platform publisher plans to release the following twelve pets for download: Large Dog, Pug Dog, Dog in Bag, Cat, Siamese Cat, Long Haired Cat, Goldfish, Guinea Pig, Monkey, Bird, Snake and Pony. Each pet is said to cost an exact 240 Microsoft Points, which is considerably cheaper than a litter box....

I’ve been known to enjoy the nightlife, and I sure do love me some peripherals. So I raise one eyebrow in the direction ofSkillz, the Playpen Studios developed “original Nightclub DJ game.” The title is said to use a unique turntable controller to mix and scratch, in this music rhythm game set to hit PC and “multiple console platforms” in 2008. The game will feature a full single-player story, two-player battles, and a freestyle mix mode....
