A site that generated 160 Microsoft Points per refresh has cost the Xbox 360 platform holder over $1.2 million in real-life cash. Unlike those bogus “fill out ten surveys for free points” sites, this one was genuinely giving away free Moon Bucks to anybody who stumbled upon it. The site is now closed down, but not before one chap nabbed $150 worth of MS Points and tons of other crafty gamers ransacked what they could....
While the implausible success of titles likeCarnival GamesandLet’sImagine Babyz Quit Smoking Dogs and Hairstyle Experiencewould lead one to believe that casual games are easy sellers, Microsoft has declared that it is the so-called “hardcore” games that shift without difficulty, thanks to the fact that they sell themselves. “The core are going to buy the games, we don’t have to focus on marketing those — well, we do, but those games in a lot of ways will sell themselves because they’re such immersive and intense experiences that the core is going to buy, and buy disproportionally for the Xbox,”says MS’ David Dennis....
That just screams class. It’s often hard for me to show off all of my videogame kit to the norms. People in my peer group either get it or they don’t, but it’s still awkward at times. Especially in the face of something so clearly built with children in mind. These minimalist wallpapers fromPokémonfan site PLDH.net are something I could show off a little more proudly. Even if I don’t cop to them being pocket monsters they’re still cool designs....
Peter Molyneux has comparedKinectto the dawn of the computer mouse, stating that the criticisms people have for Microsoft’s EyeToy are similar to those had for the now-crucial computer peripheral many moons ago. “You know what? This is exactly like the mid-80s when we got the Amiga and we started playing with a mouse,” said the snake-oil salesman of gaming. “I can remember everyone writing about how the mouse is the worst thing for gaming and it took a little while for the development community to start exploring and experiment with it....
That’s some poofy hair Eddie Vedder is sporting up there. What’s awesome is, I remember exactly when he was wearing his hair like that. That’s one of the benefits of being old enough to remember when “Alive” was a brand new song on the radio. I’ll be sitting on the proch shaking my cane at youngsters any day now. Anyway, if you’ve been enjoying the Pearl Jam selections available on Rock Band as I have, good news: more are coming....
Oh, Internet — youcheekylittle thing, you. Turns out theFinal Fantasy VI AdvanceROM has been leaked, and ravenous fans of the game that aren’t Dtoid editors (which is to say, not me) have downloaded and tore through the game in virtually no time flat. Amongst their discoveries are some extremely surprising additions toFinal Fantasy VIthat I doubt anybody really expected — including not one, buttwonew playable characters. Though these shots haven’t been confirmed, the bestiary captures lookverylegit, and the party shots — well, let’s just settle with the “unconfirmed, but likely” category for now....

Today’s a good day to be involved with the UK games industry. WithFronz’s reporton this year’s massive jump in retail revenue and now this, some serious momentum seems to be building right now. TheNeed for Speedfranchise has hit an impressive 100 million copies sold, a feat EA says only four other videogame brands have managed to accomplish. The game to push the series over the mark was the recently releasedNFS: Shift, of course. To celebrate, EA has whipped up some lovely pictures to showcase a timeline of the games, plus a neat video that features a bunch of the series’ accomplishments to date. Easily the best thing to come out of this success is the impressive list of facts we received....
While I’m not sure I’m interested in playing a game where I am a meerkat (Lead the Meerkats), let it be known that I have wasted many a day doing nothing but looking at pictures of the adorable little mammals. In fact, that sounds like a good idea, so let’s get on with this. DSiWare WiiWare A cute picture of a meerkat can be found after the jump.
