I was overwhelmed by both the quality and quantity of the Monthly Musings articles of April; I’ve gotta say, you guys posted some really kickass stuff. I can only hope that this month’s theme is strong enough to keep you guys going the way you have been: it’s called “If you love it, change it,” and it’s about finding and fixing the flaws in your favorite games. Since no game is truly perfect, there are always flaws to be fixed or untapped potential to be achieved....

Update:Everyone calm down and carry on:Sony has confirmed that it’s fake. What the hell is this video? It seems it’s a viral for Sony’s PlayStation line.Kotakusays that it popped up this weekend. It shows some scientist-looking people frantically running through the S.C.E. Principal Scientific Research Laboratory, Minami-Aoyama, in Tokyo, Japan. They run through hallways (shakycam — ugh!) and finally find themselves in a room where a guy with what looks to be wearing 3D glasses is lying on the floor, frozen, mouth agape....

Yeah, I’m gonna just go ahead and continue to spray my seed all overCrackdown’cause the game isthat good. Honestly, the thing reminds me of whenGrand Theft Auto IIIcame out and how it set the bar for open-ended gameplay. I can’t wait till this biatch finally ships and the people of the Internet come up with and find even more tricks that are waiting to be discovered.

Time for more samurai silliness fromSengoku Basara. The Wii iteration of Capcom’sDynasty Warriorsclone is coming along very nicely, and I’m definitely liking what I’ve seen so far. Here are some new screenshots featuring one of the less absurdly dressed characters, Ieyasu Tokugawa. He likes to punch things. There’s not much else to say, outside of reconfirming that I am quite excited for it. That’s the problem with posting screenshots for a game you’re looking forward to....

Yeah, the PlayStation 3 games aren’t there yet, but they will be. Yeah, the graphics aren’t there yet, but they will be. Whether or not you are aGTfan, the power and awe insipired by this game should put to rest any doubt that the PS3 is one damn impressive piece of hardware....

In case you’ve never heard ofSuper Fighter Team, it’s a Califonia-based company that specializes in releasing “new” games on retro consoles. I have to put “new” in quotes because their two most recent releases, 2006’sBeggar PrinceandThe Legend of Wukongtwo years later,were actually old games released in Taiwan in the 90’s that Super Fighter Team localized. This, of course, doesn’t make releasing new games on the Sega Genesis in 2008 any less badass....

Later this month, Takara Tomy will be releasing a second set ofNew Super Mario Bros. Wiienemy character keychains. Like the first enemy set, as well as every other set ofanything, these doodads are exclusive to Japan. However, at only 100 yen (about $1.24) apiece, you won’t break the bank if you want to import. Mario trinkets typically feature the same rotating gallery of faces — Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Toad, and maybe Goomba or Koopa Troopa....

Gamecock just slapped us with some fresh new screens from their upcoming stealth-action game,Velvet Assassin. This game looks just better and better every time I see something new. This has been on my radar ever since last year at EIEIO and I just can’t wait to get my hands onVelvet. We also received images of all the weapons that will be featured in the game. While ham-flavored Reggie Fils Aime was adamant that weshould have been happywith Nintendo’s horrifying E3 press conference, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has taken a classier approach andactually apologizedfor leaving “hardcore” gamers out in the cold. He claims that Nintendo’s “abandonment” of the core gamer is a misunderstanding, and suggests Nintendo intends to clear up that conception. “We are sorry about (the E3) media briefings, specifically for those who were expecting to see Nintendo show something aboutSuper MarioorLegend of Zelda,” stated the soft-spoken prez....

BB over at 1P Start hasan interesting articleup about something I’ve been thinking on for a long time now; why isn’t the DS a VOIP (voice over IP) phone? With a functional microphone and a wireless connection, it could very easily branch out into that realm of functionality, and VOIP has been done on everything from toasters to Linus Torvalds’ platinum grill. Of course, the added functionality would come at a cost of $30 dollars or so of research and development on Nintendo’s end, so maybe that’s what’s stopping progress on it....

While most US gamers were mildly pleased with the3DS’ $249.99 price point, those perpetually unfortunate European gamers are less than thrilled. Nintendo UK, however, has defended the projected £219-£230 price, claiming it is “definitely” worth shelling out for. “Most definitely [it’s worth the money],” says Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton. “When you look at what it does compared to anything else on the market and beyond as far as not just gaming … once people get their hands on it it’s is great value because it doesn’t do just what they’d expect from traditional gaming....

Retro Studio’s revealed that it currently has no plans to follow up the critically acclaimedDonkey Kong Country Returns. Don’t reach for the razor blades yet, however, because the team did not rule out the possibility. “I wasn’t even thinking about doing a sequel forMetroid Primeuntil Retro showed me the last scene in the game, which was near the end of development,” said producer Kensuke Tanabe. “I wouldn’t say we won’t do a sequel, but we don’t have anything planned at this time....
