Blizzard would be on board with a StarCraft movie. Who wouldn’t be? But they have some pretty specific conditions. One is that James Cameron would direct this film. Rob Pardo of Blizzard spoke withMTV Multiplayerand said that he’d do the flick if Cameron was on board. We’ve always had an interest in seeing our stuff on film or TV. It’s just tricky to find the right partners. We probably could have made a [‘StarCraft’] movie or something on TV years and years ago, but it’s really important to us that we find creative people that are really talented but also really excited about our properties....
Remember how Blizzard told us it was working on aDefense of the Ancientsmod forStarCraft II, and then proceeded to not bring it up again? Me too! The latest update on this front comes from senior game designer Jonny Ebbert at gamescom. He pins it as releasing around the same time asHeart of the Swarm. In other words, not anytime soon. Great. Suppose it’s nice to hear that this project hasn’t been abandoned, but that’s me painfully forcing myself to be an optimist....

I checked my email at work this afternoon to find that my inbox had been graced with the presence of a forwarded message from Nick Chester, our omniscient and omnipotent Editor-in-Chief. Also, they can play arcade games if they want, I guess. That is, of course, assuming this is all real. The screenshots look pretty convincing, so I’m inclined to say that it is; however, that doesn’t mean the project will ever see the light of day....
