Blizzard would do a StarCraft movie with James Cameron

Blizzard would be on board with a StarCraft movie. Who wouldn’t be? But they have some pretty specific conditions. One is that James Cameron would direct this film. Rob Pardo of Blizzard spoke withMTV Multiplayerand said that he’d do the flick if Cameron was on board. We’ve always had an interest in seeing our stuff on film or TV. It’s just tricky to find the right partners. We probably could have made a [‘StarCraft’] movie or something on TV years and years ago, but it’s really important to us that we find creative people that are really talented but also really excited about our properties....

Blizzard’s DOTA mod for StarCraft II is still on the way

Remember how Blizzard told us it was working on aDefense of the Ancientsmod forStarCraft II, and then proceeded to not bring it up again? Me too! The latest update on this front comes from senior game designer Jonny Ebbert at gamescom. He pins it as releasing around the same time asHeart of the Swarm. In other words, not anytime soon. Great. Suppose it’s nice to hear that this project hasn’t been abandoned, but that’s me painfully forcing myself to be an optimist....

Blur join LEGO Rock Band (Woo Hoo)

Damon Albarn and the boys from Blurare bringingtheir nineties Britpop nonsense toLEGO Rock Band, becomingthe latest starsto be LEGOfied in EA’s latest attempt to wrestle the music game crown fromGuitar Hero. Most of you will only know the recently reformed UK band as “those guys that did the ‘Woo Hoo’ song,” so it’s quite fortunate that this is the song to be found inLEGO Rock Band‘s setlist. “Song 2,” is a pretty bloody good tune if you ask me, so it’s cool that it’s made it into the setlist....

Box art and new screens for NASCAR 09

Listen closely, everybody: I’ve got a story for you. I checked my email at work this afternoon to find that my inbox had been graced with the presence of a forwarded message from Nick Chester, our omniscient and omnipotent Editor-in-Chief. It contained a link to a zip file, and the email mentioned that screenshots from EA Sports’ upcoming stock car racing game,NASCAR 09, were contained in the file. Not being able to download and open the archive at work, I expressed reluctance to post the shots, especially if there were only a few of them....

Boy commits PS3 hate crime in local store

Everybody knows that console wars are serious business and that cold, hard machinery is completely worth an emotional investment, but how far will the soldiers of this conflict, those truly classifiable as ‘fanboys’ go for their chosen masters? Will they break the law? In the case of one thirteen year old boy, that isexactly what he did, getting himself apprehended for scrawling “PS3 sucks” on no less than 23 plastic PlayStation 3 security cases in his local Toys R Us....

Breaking news: Mass Effect looks pretty

Mass Effectis in a brutal three-way video game cage match withGod of War IIandSuper Mario Galaxyfor the title of my most anticipated game of the year (withRatchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destructionwaiting in the wings to tag in). But I have to admit — every time new info, screens, or video is released,Mass Effectgets in some pretty lethal blows to Kratos’s gut and Mario’s groin (in my imaginary cage matches there are no rules!...

BritToid 6: Keep calm and jump on the bandwagon

Look, before we start anything I’m just going to straight up apologize. I got drunk — in fact I got so drunk I never even managed to get home to be a part of this episode. When I did get home, I thought throwing jelly beans and trying to undress Seto was a good idea, you know “for the lolz”. On top of this the Portuguese-Luxembourgian-German known as Dan Carniero was also MIA....

Call of Duty: Black Ops TV ad upsets a guy

When I first saw the TV commercial forCall of Duty: Black Ops, I must admit that I raised an eyebrow. Not that I was offended (in fact, it’s quite amusing), but the potential to offend or at least be viewed as a tasteless cheapening of real-life combat was very high. Predictably, somebody’s already taken the bait, with a columnist in particular finding himself unable to distinguish fiction from reality. “I couldn’t have asked for a more disappointing game-related ad,” moansAtlantic columnistSam Machkovech....

Clever DS encourages your inner mad scientist

Remember when you were a kid and you had your own “cooking set”, complete with burners and tiny utensils?Clever DSis going for that angle, except without the possibility of setting your mother on fire. The game takes a puzzle approach to over 100 laboratory experiments, which we imagine will utilize the touch screen for execution. While the game sounds like a good idea, I have to admit it is heavily overshadowed for me by the box art....

Could a virtual Avatar arcade be in the works?

Based on asurvey Joystiq receivedby way of a tip, all signs are pointing towards “yes.” Similar to the arcade spaces found in PlayStation Home that you all know and desperately love, Microsoft’s unnamed Avatar hub will let gamers stand around, waiting to see if any “hot chicks” show up. Also, they can play arcade games if they want, I guess. That is, of course, assuming this is all real. The screenshots look pretty convincing, so I’m inclined to say that it is; however, that doesn’t mean the project will ever see the light of day....
