EA tackles Spore complaints, changing one DRM policy in compromise

TheSporecontroversy continues as Electronic Arts’ Mariam Sughayer has been talking toMTVand responding to the biggest complaints that people have with the game’s “anti-piracy” measures. It would seem that, while EA refuses to back down on many of the issues, there is at least the suggestion thatSpore‘s three computer install limit is changing. That will be changed, according to the EA spokesperson, who told Multiplayer that the current limit on the number of computers that can be associated with a single copy of “Spore” is “very similar to a solution that iTunes has....

Environments and levels, Damnation has them

You know, I could probably go on and on about the level design inDamnation— Blue Omega’s upcoming PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC shooter — based on the press release Codemaster sent out to us today. It would involve me using words like “vertical” and “traverse” and “sun-kissed, leafy mountainside ruins.” But I’m not going to. Because there’s a video (right after the jump) of the game’s lead designer, Jacob Minkoff, talking about it....

Eurogamer Expo 2010 dates announced

After a triumphant return from PAX last September, Destructoid’s UK community group was formed and Eurogamer Expo 2009 wasour very first meet. Naturally, I was thrilled to find thatEurogamer Expo 2010 has just been announcedand will be taking place at Earls Court, London from October 1 to 3. The Expo last year was a fantastic event that boasted brilliant attendance and gave the average gamer a chance to get hands-on with big titles, such asLeft 4 Dead 2andAssassins Creed 2, without the three hour ques we saw at PAX....

Several hours ago, wetold youthat Nintendo’s pre-Tokyo Game Show conference, in which the Big N revealed a handful of upcoming 3DS titles, caused such unrest amongst shareholders that the company’s stock dropped by 5% as a result. As it turns out, that… wasn’t entirely true. On page 20 ofthis Nintendo stock drop threadon NeoGAF, several posters noticed that Nintendo’s stock actually fellpriorto the conference. Now, I will be up front with the fact that I can’t read stock charts for beans, and I’m only going by what these more financially savvy cats are saying....

Far Cry 2 dev: L.A. Noire derivative, uninspiring

Far Cry 2‘s creative director, Clint Hocking, has slammedL.A. Noiresix ways to Sunday, tearing the game apart as a piece of kitsch entertainment, and declaring that it has nothing to say for itself. Man, and sometimes I feel unprofessional when I rag onmyindustry peers. “1hr in. Moriarty was right re games as kitsch,” He said, referencing a GDC talk. “Derivative, uninspired, narcissistic. Nothing original to say, & said badly. #LANoire”...

Final Fantasy Tactics for PSP announced: multiplayer and Balthier included!

Need I preface this article with my brain paralyzing love for Square? I think not. I have to say though, atGDCI played a PSP and for the first time thought I might actually want one (which is inconvenient because I can’t make fun of it anymore if I buy one). With the upcoming release of titles like this andCrisis Core, it’s quickly becoming a must have on my list. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion Warcelebrates the ten-year anniversary of the original game with expanded features such as multiplayer, co-op modes and anime-style cutscenes....

Final Fantasy XIII review delayed due to PIRACY!

You may have noticed that we don’t have aFinal Fantasy XIIIreview up yet. In fact, an astonishing number of North American outlets are missing a review for the biggest RPG of the year. Unfortunately, we’re here to tell you that you can’t expect one on Destructoid at the present moment because ofpiracy. Wait, what? Yes,piracy! Don’t ask us for the logic behind it, because we don’t quite understand ourselves. However, Square Enix only started sending review copies out yesterday due to “piracy concerns”, so barely anybody got a game before launch (save for the obvious big sites)....

With upwards of 250,000 unique players participating in theWarhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IIbeta, I think we can call it a success. Although more and more these days it seems like the differences between betas and demos are diminishing, don’t think Relic isn’t going to take your feedback to heart. The developer has released a lengthy list of all the fixes being included inDawn of War II‘s first patch, which is now being certified by Microsoft and should be out “at launch or within a few days of the game shipping to stores....

Fitness company trademarks Fitness Hero and Workout Hero

The whole “Hero” craze is in full swing these days, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Breakfast Hero or Nursing Home Hero pop up in someone’s trademark list. The most recent trademarks are Fitness Hero and Workout Hero, but instead of beng trademarked by Activision, it seems they’ve been snapped up by VPT Technologies, a company that specializes in exergaming (Wii Fit,Let’s Yoga, etc). Hard to say if these games could nd up being good if they were made or turn into a total borefest, but it looks like the exercise gaming craze is showing no signs of slowing down....

For unthinkable day when you stop liking World of Warcraft

In an industry panel which included comprised of Jeffery Steefel (Turbine), Jeff Hickman (EA Mythic), Robert Westmoreland (Cryptic Studios) and Matt Firor (Zenimax Online Studios), the future of MMOs was discussed, and these panelists came to the conclusion that there could still be life after WoW. “There’s plenty of life after WOW,” Westmoreland commented. “The market will segment and diversify, and that’s beginning to happen.
