With an abundance of racing games this year, most of which look rock solid, it’s going to be easy to forget one or two of them. From what I can tell,Blurcould be one of the racers that gets forgotten, and that’s a shame. In a move that’s unlikely to surprise anyone, Codemasters have started the process of closing its Guildford Studio, creator ofBodycount. The UK developer wants to focus on its racing properties and is encouraging the 66 employees affected by the closure to apply for jobs at the Warwickshire HQ, creators ofGrid, and the Birmingham studio, which is developing a new racing IP. Jim certainly wasn’t very impressed with Bodycount, calling ituncreative and generic, it also failed to make a splash with consumers....

If you thought the videogame field wasn’t crowded enough already, then prepare yourselves for its newest entry:Brash Entertainment. Specializing in the high risk sector of movie-based gaming, Brash has full intentions of carving out a niche for themselves — and the financial backing to make it all a reality. Born out of Los Angeles, the start-up company has already inked deals with five major Hollywood studios, obtained licensing for 40 film properties (including the Saw series), and is already hard at work on developing 12 games as a result of this....

Jack Thompson is famous for being too serious about everything, especially videogames. What a surprise, then, to see this picture posted onGamesPolitics, as a part of a cryptic email he sent their way this morning. The email contained nothing but this picture and the subject line “First feeder bands from Hurricane Ike hit Miami!” Now, since I happen to live in Miami, I know that there were in fact very windy conditions at work last night and this morning, but since when does Jack take funny pictures of himself and mail them to gaming websites?...

Yesterdaywe reported onBritish MP and reputed liar Keith Vaz, who pursued his long-running agenda against videogames by complaining aboutModern Warfare 2‘s controversial airport scene and promising to bring the issue up in parliament. Today, Vaz was righteously pummeled by fellow Labour MP Tom Watson, who said politicians should be encouraging, not attacking, the videogame industry. “It carries a content warning, it is an 18 plus game,” Watson told MPs after Vaz claimed he was trying to protect children....

I rarely whip out the ORLY owl, but sometimes a post just warrants it. Such was the case in this tidbit fromYahoo newsabout parents’ commentary on their children’s video game habits. Not shockingly, there was a lot of negative feedback. An average of 43 percent of parents think videogames are a time waster for their children, according to a recent Associated Press survey. One commented in specific: “I don’t think it’s good for them, the violence, the obsession,” said Karen Kimball, 55, of Hale, Minn....

Activision released a couple of screenshots forBlood Drive. They only released two of them, along with a render of assorted zombies. If you look at them, you’ll see why. Perhaps it just doesn’t photograph well but nothing in these says I’m going to be thinking aboutBlood Drivefor more than five minutes after it appears on store shelves. That would be on November 4th, whenBlood Drivereleases for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, in case you were wondering....

OK, Conrad wasn’t doing jumping jacks of joy afterhe got his hands on a previewbuild of the Wii-exclusiveDead Rising: Chop Till You Dropat CES. If anything, there has been some good to come out of Capcom’s decision to port over the Xbox 360 title — the punk rock song and video by Japanese band GaGaGa Special. While the clip itself isn’t new, but the subtitles Capcom added for the CES trailer are....

I’ve been in the market for a cheap fight stick for a while now, but this custom one from Shoryuken forum-goer b15SDM has convinced me that opulence may be more important. After all, why get a basic no-thrills stick when you can get the steampunk model Sporting a Sanwa JLF stick, Seimitsu PS-14-KN buttons, and support for PS3, 360, and PC, this stick looks pretty gorgeous. The acrylic case is stuffed with clock parts and copper piping and the whole thing is pieced together with an abundance of brass fittings that really make me jealous of this piece’s owner....

Bioware isn’t opposed to the idea of adding a cooperative element to laterDragon AgeandMass Effectgames.
