Patrick Jean’s ‘Pixels’ might hit the big screen

“Pixels” is a short film which popped up about a month ago featuring classic game characters breaking out of a television and wreaking havoc through New York City. It was pretty damn cool. So cool, in fact, that Adam Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison Productions, has partnered with “Pixels” creator Patrick Jean to develop a feature film based on the concept. According to Heat Vision, Happy Madison is currently in talks with Columbia, with whom they have a “first-look” deal....

Peripherally Speaking: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom FightStick

Over the years, the prestige surrounding “arcade stick” controllers has ballooned into something epic. Back in the days of the NES Advantage, stick controllers were made to help ease old-school gaming fans, who weren’t as comfortable with the NES “joypad,” into the new world of gaming. Like the Wii’s Classic Controller, these sticks were relatively cheap and easy to come by, and were made specifically for people who weren’t too keen on Nintendo’s latest innovation in game control....

Pre-E3 09: Lost Planet 2 is looking good

The firstLost Planetwas a great game. Unfortunately, I got really bored with it about a quarter of the way into the game and never touched it again. Even though I got bored with the first one, I’m really looking forward toLost Planet 2. The four player co-op aspect of it is what’s really selling me on the game. Being able to blast giant bugs and ride in mechs with three of my buddies looks like a blast....

Preview: Shoot Many Robots

Once upon a time, two-dimensional “run-and-gun” shooters were a staple of the gaming landscape. But after being granted the immersion and strategic variety available in the third dimensions, it looked like the days of running to the right and holding down the fire button could end. Thankfully, that hasn’t happened yet and the genre now appears to be going through something of a renaissance as gameplay elements from their 3D cousins find themselves tucked into that comfortable old format to create experiences simultaneously familiar and fresh....

Preview: SOCOM 4 in 3D with the Move Sharp Shooter

The tactical shooter is a sub-genre that has existed for many years as a more “hardcore” alternative to mainstream first- and third-person shooters. Zipper Interactive is the home of theSOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALsfranchise, one of the longest-running tactical shooter series on the market....

PSA: DualShock can sub for PS Move Navigation Controller

Sony’s pricing of PlayStation Move is pretty clever. They can get away with saying that the Move experience costs less than $100, since theSports Championsbundle — which comes with the game, the PlayStation Eye camera, and the wand — retails for $99.99. (And if you already have the camera, the wand itself is $49.99.) But technically, in order to have access to thefullrange of Move games, you’ll want to shell out an additional $29....

RE:5 ‘Versus Mode’ unavailable in Germany, possibly blocked

The first bit of downloadable content for Capcom’sResident Evil 5, ‘Versus Mode,’ is nowavailable in North America. It is not available, however, in Germany. According to aEurogamer.dereport (viaVG247), the content failed to get a content rating in the country, thus preventing its release. The four-player oriented zombie busting DLC — weighing in at ahealthy1.86 megabytes — doesn’t have a different level of violence than the content already included on the disc, which makes this sort of funny:Resident Evil 5was rated and released in Germany....

Game developers have made no secret of their hatred of the used game market, but few people have vocalized it in such harsh terms as InstantAction CEO Louis Castle. According to him, retailers such as GameStop are parasites and thieves. “I still love making big traditional games that make a lot of money, and I want to think about different ways we can keep making those games,” says Castle, who currently makes Facebook games....
