EA Sports stopped making retail PC games a couple of years ago; instead, they’ve been moving into the free-to-play space with games such asTiger Woods PGA Tour OnlineandFIFA Online. The latter game has now moved out of a closed beta into a worldwide public beta, a week before the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. If you don’t want to pony up the $60 for the full-on PS3/360 game of the tournament,2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, you can register for the beta for free athttp://fifa-online.easports.com/.
The beta includes a special 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa tournament mode, so you can join your buddies and play through the actual 2010 tournament or a fantasy version of it.FIFA Soccerexecutive producer hopes that the beta will draw in some of the casual soccer fans who only notice the sport once every four years, during the World Cup (like me!): “The FIFA World Cup attracts casual soccer fans all over the world and we are inviting them to try a free soccer game they can play at work or home and win the FIFA World Cup virtually.”
