Sony will not fold under the pressure of reduced console prices this holiday season. In a recent interview withVideoGamer, Sony Computer Entertainment managing director Ray Maguire confirmed that Sony is not prepared to slash PlayStation 3 prices and fully expects the console to compete this holiday season with the lower-priced Xbox 360 Arcade and the Wii.
From the interview:
At the moment there’s a marketplace for PS3 and I think for this particular Christmas, with the kind of quality of games we’re seeing coming out this Christmas, I don’t think the price of the console is going to be an issue at all.
Price might be an issue for awesome parents, who choose to buy their children consoles — regardless of graphical prowess and features. Maguire said that Sony “has a business to run” and cutting costs isn’t the right choice for the company’s shareholders. The shareholders are probably quite happy with Maguire’s statement, because they obviously hate children who receive cheap consoles.
