We already knew that Ubisoft’sRed Steel 2wouldboast integrationwith the Wii’s new MotionPlus accessory, but it has since come to light that the extra control will not be an option —it’s mandatory. According to creative director Jason Vandenberghe, the gameplay just “isn’t there” with a regular Wii remote, so the risky decision has been made to make this game MotionPlus only.
“It’s a huge risk,” he confesses in a recent interview withNintendo Power. “We have no idea what the penetration rate for Wii MotionPlus will be. We assume high. We would like it to be high.

“I would love to say to you that it’ll be compatible with just a regular controller, but the gameplay simply isn’t there without MotionPlus. That core experience just isn’t there without it.”
Ubisoft has since confirmed thatRed Steel 2will indeed be compatibleonlywith MotionPlus, although any further comment on the decision is yet to appear, nor has there been any indication yet that the game will come packed with the accessory. From the way Vandenberghe puts it, one assumes that Ubi is hoping droves of people will havealreadybought the peripheral beforeRed Steel 2launches.
