There is word that, despite the PSP 3000 launching this year and failing to give the system any sort of worldwide appeal, Sony will continue to abandon logic and reason by releasing a PSP 4000 in late 2009, before working on a real successor console at a later date. Wait,what?
There has been no official announcement, butGI.bizseems fairly certain that this is happening. Sony has refused to comment on either the 4000 SKU or a real successor.
If a PSP 4000 truly is planned for next year, then Sony has thoroughly lost the plot. It’s bad enough that the PSP currently has three models, none of which have resonated with a wide audience outside of Japan, but to update the model only ayearafter the last failed attempt is to alienate the market entirely.
Unlike the PS3, the PSP is truly a system with a mediocre game library. People don’t want the PSP because it tried to do everything and ended up doing nothing. If Sony thinks rehashed consoles are the way to stop being this generation’s whipping boy, it’s in for a rude awakening.
I hope this is not true. I’d like to think that not even Sony is that stupid.
