I like Achievements, I think they’re neat. I also recognize that they serve no real purpose whatsoever other than to fulfill man’s inherent desire to amass arbitrary and worthlessstuff. That said, if Sony decides to act uponits recent ideaof a Trophy reward system, then I might have to declare Sony’s Achievement copypasta an Achievement beater.
AccordingOfficial PlayStation Magazine, the company is “mulling over” some sort of extra incentive for Trophy collection, although we don’t know what the potential benefits could be:
“We’ve heard that SCEA is mulling over some sort of Trophy reward system.We doubt it’ll be cash (or the equivalent), but we suspect it might be exclusive access to early betas and the like.”
Even if it is just silly tat like themes and pictures and the like, I think it’s a pretty awesome idea. I remember hearing of MS wanting to do something similar a long time ago before Achievement whores and cheaters ruined everything.
Of course, with the New Xbox Experience and Avatars, maybe MS will do more with Gamerpoints. Until then, I’ll welcome any plans that could turn Trophies into something more than mere Sony-flavored Achievements.
