Sony, like an evil mastermind,has claimedthat a PSP without a UMD drive was its sinister plot from the very beginning. While stroking a white cat, product planning chief Naoya Matsui swiveled in a massive black chair and confirmed that the PSPgo was always a part of the company’s original vision, it was just waiting for the right moment to strike.
“We’d planned to release a PSP model without a UMD drive since the very beginning,” gloats Matsui. “But if we’d simply released the hardware, there wouldn’t have been much for everyone to enjoy. We needed to prepare the right environment for it first – things like the transferral [sic] of content with the PS3 and PSN, and PC software to manage content like music and movies such as Media Go.”
According to Sony, digital content is now on par with physical games, which means the condititions are just right for the PSPgo. The proof of this theory shall of couse be in the sales. It’s all well and good for Sony to produce a UMD-blessed PSP while waiting for this alleged grand scheme to come into fruition, but will too many SKUs spoil the broth?
Also, how many of you seriously believe that Sony actually planned this all along, and aren’t just making sh*t up to look clever after the fact? I think I’d much prefer Sony to just admit that UMD was a silly idea and promise that they’ll never do it again.
