Sony Asia is runninga design-a-shibito contestforSiren: New Translation. Members of Hong Kong and Singapore can submit artwork of their ideal shibito to win a copy ofSiren: New Translationsigned by the game’s producer, and 500 HKD. Oh, and their shibito will be used in the nextSirentitle.
…wait, a newSirentitle? Oh my stars and bars, this is wonderful news. WithSilent Hillseemingly done with, andResident Evilbeating its own path in the survival franchise,Sirencould easily take the crown for the creepiest and most disturbing franchise in the survial horror genre. Every minute I play of that game, my heart is beating — and I love it.
People are going to have a hard time designing some truly disturbing shibito. As opposed to just coming up with something truly horrific to look at, likeSilent Hilldoes, it’s theslightperversion of humanity that has manifested itself in the person, and the behavior patterns of the shibito that make them truly creepy. While the art will be rather important, I think the 500-word essay that has to accompany the piece will be the true defining factor for the winner.
