Xbox 360 role-playing gamers should be excited to hear that Square Enix is announcing their next fantasy role-playing game for the console, though we don’t expect that gamers will be too enthusiastic about its cringe-worthy title.
Nevermind the bad title: this new game comes from the creative minds at tri-Ace (makers ofValkryie Profileand theStar Oceanseries) and RPG vets Square Enix, so it’s probably safe to say that something interesting should come out of this collaboration.
InInfinite Undiscovery, players are taken into a real-time world “woven of countless threads where their choices will spin untold discoveries.” The actions taken by the player with each discovery will have a real-time impact on the world.
The battles are carried out in real-time, bringingStar Ocean-like combat to this game’s world, and all of the exploration and combat are supposed to take place within the same environment (no battle screen warp). The press release also mentions “situational battles” that would have players “executing a daring escape while a gigantic ogre follows in hot pursuit.” The environment would change based on the commands and actions of the player in these situations.
