It’s a sad day for Square Enix, who have released a statement in which they have changed their profit forecast for the fiscal year ending in March 2011 and it is not pretty. They are now anticipating a year-end profit of 1 billion yen, down from an earlier forecast of 12 billion yen. That has to hurt.

It’s a sad day for us as well. Profits fromDeus Ex: Human Revolutionmust have been factored into that 11 billion yen they aren’t going to earn. The game has been pushed back into the next fiscal year, so who knows when it might actually arrive now.

Square Enix has had a tough year, with games performing below expectations in some cases to the outright cluster of expense thatFinal Fantasy XIVhas likely resulted in. Hopefully this gets them to turn things around next year.
