Well, here’s something you don’t usually see — a refund on Steam. Apparently, Ubisoft has been unable to deny that the PC port ofFrom Dustis absolutely atrocious and, not long after revealing that it’ll be patching out the horrible DRM, it’s start letting customers know they can get their money back.

“Ubisoft has just announced that they are working on a patch that will eliminate the need for any online authentication forFrom Dust. The patch will release in approximately two weeks,” states a customer support ticket. “If you don’t want to wait for the patch or if you haven’t played the game, per Ubisoft’s request, we will issue refunds for this title. If you would still like your purchase ofFrom Dustrefunded, please reply to this ticket.”

The wording is a little vague, as “if you haven’t played the game” is presented as both a requirement and an option, but I’m guessing that the refund will be retracted post-patch,unlessyour game is unplayed. Either way, the word “refund” isn’t something you see when talking about digital distribution, so this is fairly big stuff.

The PC version ofFrom Dustis widely criticized for having terrible controls, fixed framerate, various bugs and, of course, the soon-to-be-eliminated DRM.
