Both the Wii and the DS have shown a trend of recent titles intended to use the consoles in new and innovative ways. With my DS I’ve already done face exercises, trained my brain, played with motion capture and stuck my nose up schoolgirl skirts. The last one isn’t really innovative, but it makes me feel naughty and delicious.
Symphonic Orchestrahas just been announced in Japan for the DS, hot on the heels ofWiimusicandNodame Cantabile: Dream Orchestra.Players will use the Wiimote to conduct their orchestra through performances from symphonic greats such as Beethoven, Bizet and Verdi. The chellenges will be set in illustrious locations such as Paris, Berlin and Vienna.

To the general gamer this may sound as abysmal as flute lessons from grammar school, but a specific type of gamer ought to get weak in the knees for it. The concept reminds me a bit ofTrauma Centerand could be really cool if executed correctly. It also seems like a title my grandmother would dig, which is cool because I like the idea of sharing gaming with family in a way they could actually understand.
