We knew the sequel to Ubisoft’s promising, but sub-par, Wii first-person shooterRed Steelwas on the way. What we didn’t know, but could have guessed, is that it will indeed take advantage of Nintendo’s recently announced WiiMotion Plus technology.

“Red Steel 2has been in development for many months now,” Ubisoft’s Alain Corre says speaking withGamesIndustry.biz, “and this new device will help us be even more precise in what we do with the product. TheRed Steelbrand is strong — I think we released it on year one, and that people understand that it was a first try on new technology, technology that wasn’t completely finished yet.”

That last statement is an interesting one, and although it’s not completely clarified by Corre in the interview, mirrors some feedback I heard from a lot of developers at E3: why wasn’t this 1:1 technology included right out of box when the Wii launched? Doesn’t anyone seem to get the impression that Nintendo are “finishing” or perfecting an unfinished product by introducing the WiiMotion Plus?

Whatever the case, the confirmation of both a sequel and the inclusion of MotionPlus should be good news for fans (or wannabe-fans) ofRed Steel. WiiMotion Plus along withWii Sports Resortwon’t launch until next spring, soRed Steel 2looks to be a ways off.
