3D is never simple, is it? First it was crappy blue and red glasses, then it’s specially designed theaters and now that the 3DS is bringing us glasses-free 3D the issue becomes health concerns for those who can’t handle 3D.Nintendo’s responseto the issue is simple: they’re allowing us to turn off the 3D on their upcoming handheld.
While this sounds like a simple and obvious solution it really raises some questions. AsKotakupoints out, this could relegate the 3DS’s 3D to just a terrible gimmick because developers would have to struggle to make their games work in both dimensions and wouldn’t be designing for 3D gaming, which can actually offer some unique twists. Will we just be seeing games that are designed for 3D only?

Like all big gaming questions, E3 and the future will tell all, so just hold your 3D optional horses.
