More bitching about pre-owned games from David Braben

Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to re-introduce you to David Braben. The Frontier Developments bosshas already slammed pre-owned gamesin the past, falsely claiming that other industries don’t tolerate the practice and asking for retail chains to replace pre-owned titles with a rental service. Well, he’s at it again: “I think it’s really damaging to the single-player experience,” whines Braben. “Games likeBioShockandAssassin’s Creed, where they’re perfectly valid games, but once you’ve played them they go into the pre-owned section....

New House of the Dead OVERKILL screens are not overkill

I love myHouse of the Deadtitles, especially in the arcade. Hell, even the re-release comboHouse of the Dead 2 & 3 Returnwasn’t that bad. They’re supposed to be simple, campy lightgun games, but this new one,Overkill, looks to be just that: overkill. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. This new Wii-only lightgun title by London-based Headstrong Games is shooting (hah!) for campy, with an emphasis on a retro B-movie vibe....

New PS3 ad; clever, witty, and no demon babies in sight!

The above video is Sony’s newest ad for their upcoming PlayStation 3 console. You might remembertheir last adas something of a Lynch-esque nightmare involving a demonic baby that you wanted to exorcise via a double dose ofRU-486. Sadly, pills don’t work on things that aren’t only in your mind. Here at Destructoid, we applaud Sony for going in a completely different route with this ad. Instead of scaring the bejeezus out of us, this ad gives off an air of “our machine is powerulANDit likes the same toys you did as a child in the 80s”....

Check out my previewfor it here. Also,MX vs ATV: Reflexlooks like it could be some good fun....

New Super Mario Bros. Wii video will make you want it now

So this isn’t colored by the fact that I played a four-player game ofNew Super Mario Bros. Wiiwith its creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, but I’m pretty sure this game is going to beawesome. Like a lot of people, playingSuper Mario Bros.on the Nintendo Entertainment System and mastering its levels and secrets is one of my earliest gaming memories. In many ways,New Super Mario Bros. Wiiis a “back to basics” Mario game, one that has the feel of an old-screen side-scroller with a modern twist....

NFL player gets paralyzed … somehow videogames are at fault

This is simply amazing. Videogames have been demonized for many violent crimes by utter stupidiots in the past, butthis has to be the first timethat a sports injury has been used to attack the entertainment software industry. Kevin Everett of the Buffalo Bills took a hit this past Sunday that ended up crippling him, an obvious tragedy for Everett, his family and the sport to which he belonged. As sad as it is, however, there’s always somebody willing to exploit misfortune for their own personal agenda, and this is where Bob Molinaro comes in....
