Mojang gauged interest in aMinecraftconventiona few months back, and now the event, dubbed MineCon, is official. It’ll take place on November 18-19 — which is when the game’s full release will happen — at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, reports PC Gamer. Registration and full event details will be available next week. “I’m really looking forward to getting up on stage and pushing the button to upload the final build,” says designer Markus Persson....

Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to re-introduce you to David Braben. The Frontier Developments bosshas already slammed pre-owned gamesin the past, falsely claiming that other industries don’t tolerate the practice and asking for retail chains to replace pre-owned titles with a rental service. Well, he’s at it again: “I think it’s really damaging to the single-player experience,” whines Braben. “Games likeBioShockandAssassin’s Creed, where they’re perfectly valid games, but once you’ve played them they go into the pre-owned section....

Valve is simultaneously pulling from the familiar and switching it up with its next add-on pack forLeft 4 Dead 2. The first details have come out by way of ablog post: four campaigns, three of which are the remaining originalLeft 4 Deadcampaigns, and one from the community. Matthew Lourdelet, who is known for the mod 2 Evil Eyes, is working on a campaign called Cold Stream. Valve has teamed up with him to not only finish the project for PC and Mac, but get it out on Xbox 360 as well....

I love myHouse of the Deadtitles, especially in the arcade. Hell, even the re-release comboHouse of the Dead 2 & 3 Returnwasn’t that bad. They’re supposed to be simple, campy lightgun games, but this new one,Overkill, looks to be just that: overkill. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. This new Wii-only lightgun title by London-based Headstrong Games is shooting (hah!) for campy, with an emphasis on a retro B-movie vibe....

The game is titledOperation Flashpoint: Red River, and it is has the wide open release date of 2011. Maybe I’m the only one here, butRogue Warriorseems to have come out of nowhere. There’s been barely any buzz on this game for months now. Bad sign? What has been getting a lot of attention, however, isJames Cameron’s Avatar: The Game. But that’s mostly due to James Cameron himself talking on and on and on and on and on aboutAvatar. So this isn’t colored by the fact that I played a four-player game ofNew Super Mario Bros. Wiiwith its creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, but I’m pretty sure this game is going to beawesome. Like a lot of people, playingSuper Mario Bros.on the Nintendo Entertainment System and mastering its levels and secrets is one of my earliest gaming memories. In many ways,New Super Mario Bros. Wiiis a “back to basics” Mario game, one that has the feel of an old-screen side-scroller with a modern twist....

This is simply amazing. Videogames have been demonized for many violent crimes by utter stupidiots in the past, butthis has to be the first timethat a sports injury has been used to attack the entertainment software industry. Kevin Everett of the Buffalo Bills took a hit this past Sunday that ended up crippling him, an obvious tragedy for Everett, his family and the sport to which he belonged. As sad as it is, however, there’s always somebody willing to exploit misfortune for their own personal agenda, and this is where Bob Molinaro comes in....

This is absolutely hilarious. A ridiculous and peculiar glitch in EA’s new racing title,Need for Speed: Shift, has allegedlybeen unearthed, and it’s amazing. The title supposedly contains a game-breaking error in which the Xbox 360 version crashes while attempting to connect to the PlayStation Store. You have read that correctly, a 360 game is trying to connect to PSN. This is just one of many bugs reported to have shipped withShift....
