Today, Square Enix ends the wait with the release ofFinal Fantasy: Dissidiaon the PlayStation Network, ready for download on your PSP or PSPgo. This 3D brawler starring the Final Fantasy All-Stars (that would make a fantastic basketball team)isn’t the end-all fighting game, but it’s pretty good, and makes for a great road trip game....

In their December edition,Brio Magazine, a publication ofFocus on the Family, ran a little blurb about the ESRB. In short, author Bob Smithousar isn’t impressed. Briois primarily a girl’s magazine, ages 10-14 or so, and the fact that they’ve taken an, albeit small, interest in the inner-workings of the ESRB could indicate an increase in girl gaming. More importantly, however, are the possible political implications of FoF-led Crusade against the ESRB....

Buster Redis not the most complex of shmups, but it’s fun and it’s free, and that’s what matters. Firing is automatic, your job is just to move and use power-ups. It looks great, has a really cool soundtrack, and the special attacks are particularly kickass. Good stuff. With several playable ships and a boss rush mode, as well as OpenFeint Achievements, there’s plenty to be getting on with the cost of nothing....

All you need to know in order to decide that you need this game is its full title:The Kraken: The Simulation Application for Nautical Maneuvering. I mean, that says everything you need, right? As a game,The Krakenisn’t the greatest game around. It’s a slow-paced game in which you wiggle your iOS device around and avoid the tentacles of a ravenous sea beast. However, the gorgeous “ye olde” visual style, and the wonderfully macabre death scenes you get whenever you fail, are worth checking out....

Test Drive Unlimited 2suffered from numerous bugs when it was released earlier this month. To make amends, developer Eden Games will hand out the first premium DLC ‘Exploration Pack’ — containing the Lancia Stratos Rally Version and 1969 Dodge Charger — for free. Issues like corrupt saves, money exploits and problems with invites and friends lists have now been fixed on the PC version. The Xbox 360 and PS3 patches are currently under certification....

I had heard a rumor that videogames were recession proof, but it appears that is not true. If the recentclosing of 3D Realmsisn’t enough to convince you then how about a few numbers. In the past year 8,450 people have lost their job in the gaming industry. That number is according to Wanda Meloni, an independent analyst who conducted the study over atGamasutra. Her research, which was based on Game Developer Research’sGame Developer Census 2008report, shows that 75 percent of those jobs were from North America....

As 2007 draws to a close, we say our goodbyes to what has arguably been one of the greatest years for videogames ever. With so many amazing releases, this year has been absolutely stunning, and we can now definitely say that the new generation of games has finally arrived. FromBioShocktoSuper Mario Galaxy, the hobby we love has given us so very much to latch onto, and latch we did. The online gamer community made memes, injokes and even obsessions of so very much in 2007 as iconic moments, characters and people surfaced....

Another month, another videogame convention! gamescom 10 takes place this week in Cologne, Germany and Microsoft is coming right out of the gate first with details on a range of their products, including Kinect. Ubisoft got Ben Mor to direct this live-action short based onGhost Recon: Future Soldier, with visual effects by Asylum ofTerminator Salvationfame. I have never played aGhost Recongame or even given much thought to the series, which is okay, because you don’t need to have done either of those things to enjoy this. As per usual in the realm of live action, the video starts out kind of cool, dips into cheesy territory, then somehow manages to be both simultaneously....
