‘Majority’ of 3DS players suffering side effects?

Nintendo World held a large3DStesting event last week, and a troubling report claims that a “majority” of players suffered side effects as a result of the 3D gimmickry. Japanese magazineFridayclaims that players suffered from dizziness and eye fatigue, and often switched the visuals to 2D within ten minutes. Apparently, holding the 3DS still can help with the strain, but that wasn’t good enough for quite a few players. Fridayappears to be the only member of the Japanese press running this report, with other articles remaining wholly positive about the system....

Adorable (and adoptable!) puppies make our E3 predictions

Doing this year’s E3 predictions post was tough. I didn’t want to duplicate the same ideas I did in years past, but I knew it would be challenging to top the fun and mysterious energy ofgoing to a psychic in 2009, and damn nearimpossibleto top the sheer epic awesomeness of havingexclusive access to the animals of the L.A. Zoo in 2010. So this year I decided to do something that could potentiallygive back....

Arkanoid making a comeback on WiiWare

Square Enix and Taito are have updated the classicArkanoidfor WiiWare.Arkanoid Plus!will have multiplayer, co-op, arcade mode, time mode, 122 levels and tons of upgrades and power-ups. There’s no release date yet, but expect it “soon.” Arkanoidtype games are some of my favorite. These type of games relax me more so than any other game out there and I view them as Zen type gaming. Sure, sometimes there’s a ton of stuff happening on the screen, but I never get excited or frantic when it happens....

Army of Two: the 40th Day TV spot appears, is serious

One of the first — if not the first — TV spots forArmy of Two: the 40th Daydoesn’t measure up to thebrilliant bit of marketing we witnessedwithBorderlands. No midgets, no three-balled bosses, or loot are shown. But there is a bit of humor, particularly in the scene where Salem and Rios think it’s a good idea tolift their maskswhile being shot at. Then again this is the duo that can’t handlebeing in a GameStop, or walking aroundin an officewithout attempting to kill a woman and/or shooting something....

Art Attack Friday: brandokay

Brandokay became a sensation early last year for his epicMog of Warpiece. Who would have thought that a cute little Mog could become such a badass. After all that time staying hidden away in my 3,000 plus bookmark list (yes, really. I’m a digital pack rat), it’s finally time for Brandokays other epic pieces to be shown off. Where to begin though? All of his pieces are just amazing. My favorite of the bunch has to be the montage of all the music/rhythm videogame characters....

Bay to Breakers: Drunken Cosplay at its finest

Once a year in the good city of San Francisco, the main streets shut down and surrender themselves to throngs of residents for the epic Bay to Breakers marathon. While the brave few run the track from the San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean, the many walk behind in greater numbers to follow a course of costume wearing, debauchery, and general dancing in the streets. While the event itself is by far one of the best West coast holidays of the year, stumbling across drunken videogame cosplays yesterday amidst the brilliant chaos was the frosting on the cake....

Big in 2007: Naming your child ‘Raiden’

The United States Social Security Administrationhas revealedthe top baby names for 2007, and much of the list is unsurprisingly banal. The top three boy names are Jacob, Michael, and Ethan; the top three girl names are Emily, Isabella, and Emma. Nothing to see here, move along. But most surprising — and something that made me pause and say “What the f**k, why?” — was that the name “Raiden” actually made the list....

Big shocker: Europe gets no Xbox 360 price cut

It didn’t really come as a surprise when Microsoft announced anXbox 360 price dropfor this Wednesday and it should come as even less of a surprise to learn that once again Europe is left out in the cold. Talking toIGN, Microsoft gave a concise, abrupt answer to questions about a reduced price in the PAL territories: “This announcement was specifically around pricing in the US. We have not announced any pricing changes in Europe....

BlackSite: Area 51: Hands on and early impressions

One such game on hand and playable wasBlackSite: Area 51for the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3. Due this summer, hit the jump for my quick and simple impressions of the game. Braben: Sony faces communication problems with Move

David Braben, chairman of Frontier (LostWinds, Kinectimals), has called out Sony for poor marketing decisions concerning PlayStation Move. According to Braben, Sony’s been unclear on which part of its Wiimote is needed for which games. With future PS3 games needing remotes, remotes & nunchucks, ortworemotes, the potential to confuse customers is there. “I think there are some things that I haven’t quite understood with Move,” claims Braben. “I think it really just needs better communication in terms of the fact that there are three different elements to it and it’s not clear which games are going to need which of the primary controller, navigation controller and the camera, and I suspect some games will need some or all of the above....
