GDC 08: Microsoft Blogger Breakfast

Ladies and gentlemen, Destructoid’s Ron “Ansel Adams” Workman is an excellent photographer. Seriously folks, I’m not sure that the pictures he took during this morning’s Microsoft Bloggers Breakfast could have been any blurrier or more poorly framed. I only post them here for you today so that you may at least begin to understand my pain. But the pictures aren’t really what was important about this morning’s invite-only bloggers breakfast, nor is it the fantastic bacon served....

GDC 08: The epic Street Fighter IV journalist tournament

Despite Chun-Li’s massive thighs of destruction, or Ryu’s “why penis, why?” inducing crotch,Street Fighter IVis shaping up to be pretty impressive. While our very own Aaron Linde wasbusy prepping the written word, a few of us crammed into Capcom’s private suit in the St. Regis hotel for an epic showdown — the first AmericanStreet Fighter IVtournament! The journalist-only tournament went on for about two hours, and in a shocking turn of events, bizarre luck actually found me in the tournament’s final rounds....

Greed Corp out on XBLA and PSN next week

Turn-based strategy with some smokin’ hexagonal tile action … no, we aren’t talkingCivilization V. Wrong post!Greed Corpis the name of the game, and it’s been dated for PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade. That’d be February 24 and 25, respectively. Similar to whatGaijin Games is doingwith theBIT.TRIPseries, W!Games has plans forGreed Corpto be part of an overarching universe that’s tied together through completely separate videogames. Aneat concept, for sure. Thankfully,Greed Corphas more going for it than that — the mechanics look solid, and the idea of balancing between gaining more resources and destroying the environment is an interesting one....

Here’s what the people think of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom

If you read (or scrolled down to the end of) theDtoid review ofTatsunoko vs. Capcom, then you already know what I think of the game. But hey, I’m a (sort of) gaming journalist, right? My life, and my relationship with videogames, is probably pretty different from yours. That’s not to say that my opinion on the game shouldn’t mean anything to you, but it stands to reason that you might also want to know what “regular” people think of the game too....

Hey 3DS owners, you need to check out PiCTOBiTS

What got me through E3 this past week was, surprisingly enough, my 3DS. No, I didn’t getOcarina of Time 3Dearly, and while cool in its own right, one can only extract so much joy from the new Pokedex 3D app. (Those 3D models are pretty damn cool, though.) Instead, it was a DSiWare title that I happened to pick up on a whim. This library was incorporated into the 3DS eShop launch early on in the week, giving all of those who skipped out on the DSi an opportunity to sift through a rather large pile of crummy games....

IBM to kill off the Cell processor (updated)

I thought long and hard about a Thanksgiving-related pun to use in this header, but in the end I couldn’t find anything to fit in the title box. Thus, I shall try to put the puns in here. So, chipmaker IBMislooked like it was planningto take theaxeto Cell, the processing technology behind the PlayStation 3 console, which some opposition fanboys have called a “turkey”.Unfortunately, I doubt they call it that because they think it to be fat andstuffedwith deliciousness....

Insanely epic Mario and Luigi papercraft

The above Mario and Luigi papercrafts might not be the newest things on the interweb since they were indeed posted in May and the Mario part was actually completed in January, but, much like NBC’s old summer television ad campaign stated, if you haven’t seen it it’s new to you. The two bros were made byTouchFuzzyGetDizzybecause he’s just one of those people who does cool things. He says they are pretty complicated, but you may get templates for both of them from the link above if you feel like getting some paper cuts in a vain attempt to put them together....

Intense screenshots of Alice: Madness Returns

One of the major selling points forAlice: Madness Returnsis the game’s twisted nature, and how the art style meshes nicely with the insanity. Take, for instance, these screenshots. When you enter “Hysteria!” mode, Alice goes all bloody eyed and the world turns black, white, and red, which is what these images depict. I think the originalblood-vomiting teaserforMadness Returnshas finally been one-upped.

Japan getting new DSi XL colors

Nintendo has announced that the Japanese will have three more colors to choose from when making their DSi XL purchase. On June 19th, yellow, green and blue versions of the device will be available in stores. They look hot. I would totally rock that yellow one because the black trim makes it very sexy. And I’m about due to buy another Nintendo handheld. If these were available in the United States, I can guarantee that there would be at least one sale....

Jimpressions: Dead Space 2 demo

AdemoforDead Space 2was released on Xbox Live/PSN yesterday, and all good people downloaded it immediately. The first game scared me so much that I kept doing little rabbit poops from out of my puckered browneye, soDead Space 2has a lot to live up to. Naturally, no demo is complete with some Jimpressions, so why not see what I thought of the game as if my opinion matters? Oh, and do thank Nick Chester for providing the game footage!...

Just Cause 2’s vehicle stunts look absolutely bonkers

When Swedish-developer Avalanche Studios released the originalJust Causein 2006, it featured its share of over-the-top action and vehicle roof stunts. But even the development team admits that it was a bit limited, which was the catalyst for wanting to truly take it to the next level for the upcoming sequel. The game’s thrill-seeking protagonist Rico can now climb around on moving vehicles, take cover from enemy fire on those same vehicle, jump to other vehicles, as well as use his grappling hook and parachute at the push of a button....

Key Modern Warfare developer leave Infinity Ward

The firing of Infinity Ward’s founding members is still a matter ofsome controversy, and while the Activision-owned studio is still soldiering on, more members are falling by the wayside. Todd Alderman, lead designer and a man with heavy influence onModern Warfare‘s multiplayer and narrative, left the company last week alongside Francesco Gigliotti. The two men had been with Infinity Ward for eight and seven years respectively, and their leaving the studio just a month after the firing of Vince Zampella and Jason West is going to look shady no matter how coincidental the situation may be....
