You and me are about to throw down, Nintendo. I’m cool with your new console not having the flashiest visuals on the block. That’s fine. You’re taking game play in new directions with your motion sensing controllers! It’s going to revolutionize gaming and bring the whole family together with revolutionary interactive experiences, right? But if you’re going to tell me that your console will support 420p and that you’ll even go so far as to finally release official component cables through retail, just do it already....

Last week the claws came out in the cat fight between Chun-Li and Vega. After a week of scratches and kicks, the Dtoid army sent one loser walking off with their blond braids hanging between their hind legs. Here are the results: Well, at least Vega managed to do better thanSheevaagainst thunder thighs. This week’s battle brings us to the last fight of round two, and one step closer to the final four....

It is late. I am full of second-run turkey and ginger ale. The fireplace behind me is crackling out its last and the snow is piling up outside. Yes sir, getting an oft-talked-about title likeGears of War 2up on Games on Demand, Microsoft’s digital distribution service for Xbox 360, is exactly what needed to happen. There’s only one problem. Namely, the price isn’t quite where it ought to be — at least, not if GoD is supposed to be competitive. Half the time, I don’t think it is. Anyway,Gears of War 2is $29.99, which would be fine if it was the Game of the Year edition....

After GameTap fired its entire editorial staff, the assumption was that the downloadable game service was in a decent amount of financial trouble. Recently,GameDailyconducted an interview with GameTap’s vice president of content, Rick Sanchez, in which he assured the interviewer that “the rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated.” This apparently means the service is here to stay. In regards to the editorial staff firing, Sanchez alludes to the fact that it was consumer disinterest, rather than a move to alleviate funds for a sinking ship....

Yesterday,Saints Row 2downloadable content“Ultor Exposed”hit Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Network for 800 Microsoft Points and $9.99, respectively. We neglected to report on this because we were too busy laughing at the marketing for the DLC. If you don’t believe me, hit the break. There’s a trailer on the other side starring Gary Busey. But let’s forget about him for the sake of information. “Ultor Exposed” — the first bit of DLC forSaints Row 2— will have players fighting against the “evil” Ultor Corporation....

Last week, THQ sent us some screens of a curious little out-of-the-blue puzzler for the Nintendo DS calledDropcast. The story: a maladjusted little girl with a vicious imagination named Ingrid can’t seem to make and keep friends. Upset, she turns to animating a rambunctious and mischievous group of her own stuffed animals. A curious set up for a puzzle game, but it succeeded in catching my eye. So much so, in fact, that I asked THQ if they’d let me spent some time with the game....

A report by industry group Casual Games Association says that males tend to like casual games as much as females do, but aren’t fessing up as much. Maybe the games have to have guns or footballs in them to be mentionable? “Everyone always thought that casual games were something that only appeal to women,” Jessica Tams, managing director of the association, said in an interview. “We have always been obsessed about making games for women....

I have fond memories of my pre-teen self working diligently to master the frustrating world ofKid Icaruson the Nintendo Entertainment System, in an attempt to best the Eggplant Wizard and that thing they claimed was Medusa. Not entirely sure why the memories are so fond, because going back and playing it recently, it’s pretty obviously:Kid Icaruswasn’t very good. But never underestimate the power of rose-tinted goggles, because as soon as Reggie Fils-Aime spit his closing remarks at Nintendo’s 3DS press conference in New York City this week, I made a beeline towards Pit’s first adventure in 20 years....

Those who can’t get enough of the adventures of Sookie Stackhouse might be in for a digital treat, as HBO has recently filed for the trademark of “True Blood” for use in videogames. What this means is anyone’s guess. Could be anything from a full-on console title to a Flash game embedded into the show’s official Web site. My wildest dreams have an entire Fangtasia space being made available for PlayStation Home....

Hothead Games has released a second developer diary and it may actually be funnier than the first one. Thank God we have the patriotic and civic-minded geniuses at Hothead to help protect us from the horrors of COMMUNISM. These videos are fantastic fun and I do hope they continue to produce more of them. I don’t like thinking about the companies which make my entertainment products as automatons who sit in front of computer screens all day, staring and typing....
