Brink dev believes separate multiplayer is ludicrous

Here is Splash Damage’s Edward Stern’s quote fromGamasutraon multiplayer gaming (read first, we’ll discuss after): It’s just inane. You get games shipping with separate executables, a completely different experience, sometimes a different control scheme. Why would you ever do that? It’s crazy now. There’s no reason to do that. It seems ludicrous that we’ve got this notion of completely separate online, offline, single-player, multiplayer. That’s in the past. There’s no reason to put up with that anymore....

Building towns and beat-downs in White Knight Chronicles

I don’t know if you guys have heard about this game. It’s calledWhite Knight Chronicles. Ring a bell? It does?! No way! I’m just, you know, surprised that you would even remember this thing. When was it announced? Like 2005? 2006? Who even knows now, all I can say is this damn game has been AWOL for freaking ever. Oh, and it released in Japan back in December…2008. Nice one, Sony....

Check out Frontier Aja’s Koumajou Densetsu: Scarlet Symphony

Watch the video below, but don’t stop it if you feel like you’ve seen it before. It’s pretty clear that indie developer Frontier Aja’s upcoming PC game, which debuts this week at Comiket 76, is heavily influenced by the originalCastlevaniagames. In fact “clone of” is probably a better descriptor in this case. Still clones of great games that look great themselves are welcomed with open arms here at Destructoid. In case you aren’t down with the sickness, the game is based off of a series of doujin style games called theTouhou Project, and its lead character has starred in many previous games that were mostly shooters....

Dear THQ: We covet your Darksiders cloth map

I’ve been itching to play THQ’sDarksiders: Wrath of Warfor an incredibly long time now. In fact, I was supposed to be previewing the thing in LA several months ago before the event was postponed and never re-booked. Then I find out thatMTV Multiplayernot only got to play it, but also got its talons on a proper nerdy cloth map. The inclusion of a cloth map will jerk the nostalgic collar of many anUltimafan, and is in keeping with the old school vibe thatDarksidersis hoping to radiate....

Destructoid review: Luminous Arc 2

Let’s face it: at their core, all strategy role-playing games are very similar. Players find themselves positioning characters on a grid, managing resources and calculating strategy to take down the enemy. Battles follow an attack-and-be-attacked pattern, and other than some minor changes to the formula, the battle systems are very similar in these games. After battle, story segment follows, and then another battle begins. Because of this, it seems that the success of SRPGs relies heavily on overall challenge, presentation, story, and writing....

Destructoid’s games of the week for 22-07-2025: Mixed messages edition!

Guys, I’d love to spend an hour crafting a deep, engaging story about why my hair hurts this week, but honestly I’m too absorbed inAssassin’s Creedto give this whole thing much thought. One of the true joys of a gig like this is that instead of half-assing your work because you’re fictionally sick, you can just honestly say “I’m half-assing things because I have to go run across a series of rooftops, dive into a bale of hay, then emerge to stab an Arabic warlord in the neck....
