We doa lot of storieshere about themedia’s fascination with video gamesturning people into killers and generally we snark and say something to the effect of ‘the media is wrong, we’re right, everyone else please die’, and then aside from everyone else dying, everything is right in the world again. Of course, some scientist wouldhaveto come along andactually studygaming only to discover that there may be some truth to the media’s claims, and as happens all too often, science has made me look like an idiot (see:Vatican vs Copernicusfor more)....

If it seems like I’ve been in afurrymood recently, I can assure you it’s all one big unfortunate coincidence. Here’s some news thatisn’tunfortunate! Remember that Japanese DS gameSolatorobothat wementioneda few months back? If you may get over the talking dogs and cats (seriously, stop with the glares!), it looks like a solid action RPG with some surprisingly clean polygonal graphics by DS standards. Anyway, Nintendo has today announced that it will publish the game in European territories later this year....

All this week I am going to be giving ridiculously quick hands-on impressions of all the games I see on the E3 show floor. Let’s get started withKirby’s Epic Yarn. You guys are not ready for this game. Admittedly, it felt a little slow at first — Kirby doesn’t run that fast on the screen — but this is easily remedied by double-tapping left or right on the D-pad and TURNING KIRBY INTO A RACECAR, which makes him move much faster....

In a nice move by Bohemia Interactive, the popular military simulationArma 2is getting a free version for everyone who was too unsure to put money down on the original title. Arma 2: Free, as it’s been appropriately named, is free, but not free-to-play. So no microtransactions or anything of that nature. On the flip side, you are getting the multiplayer experience “minus the campaign, HD graphics, and support for user-made add-ons and mods....

Despite the clutter of stupid people bidding and eventually buying all of the shady PlayStation 3 eBay auctions for boxes and random paraphenalia, this one purchase stands far above the others. eBay user takeawildguess23 put upwhat appearsto be a PlayStation 3, to the ignorant of course. In this video, we’re guided through parts of “The Missing Link,” an October-bound add-on forDeus Ex Human Revolution. Described as being five hours worth of content in which Adam is trapped on a cargo ship, this expansion also includes upgrades to the lighting system and adds weather effects. Though I’ve seen numerous reports of people maxing out their augments, a move that defeats the purpose of having a specific play style, I do appreciate how this DLC provides an opportunity to potentially choose an alternate upgrade route....

When Epic isn’t busyaccidentally banning modders, the videogame world darling is doing many other things. One thing Epic Gamesisn’tdoing, however, is playing the Nintendo Wii, if president Mike Cappshas any sayon the matter. Comparing the console to a virus, Capps has discussed how the desire for a Wii spreads from person to person, but the desire to play it once bought rarely lingers on: “It’s a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they’re like, ‘Oh my God that’s so cool, I’m gonna go buy it …So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they’ve showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on....

A while back, wetold you about a contestVisceral Games was holding forDead Space 2that tasked fans with creating an original hand-to-hand attack for Isaac Clarke to use. If you recall, the winner would not only get their dismemberment implemented into the game — which is awesome in and of itself — they’d also have their face and body slapped on an NPC inDead Space 2for the specific purpose of getting obliterated by a necromorph....

I’m glad a sequel toPhantasy Star Portableis coming. There has been rumblings on the game since early this month, but now we have some solid details on the upcoming PSP role-playing title. This week’s Famitsu says thatPS2Ptakes place 3 years after the first game. More importantly, the sequel will bring back ad-hoc multiplayer, but will add an infrastructure online mode for real multiplayer action. Now, that’s not to say that this title will come out in the US, and if it does, there’s a decent chance that the infrastructure part could be stripped....

No, really now. This isn’t something we’ve heard, orsome vague hints— this is the real deal. A full-blown announcement. PopCap’sPlants vs. Zombiesis coming to both the iPhone, and as you may have heard, the Xbox Live Arcade. As for the Xbox 360 version, they recently announced this, and the only thing the new press release says is that there is still no confirmed date for launch. The real news here is the iPhone version, which is slated to come to the App Store in the fall....
