Today Bethesda and id Software have revealed the details of the events that will shape the upcoming QuakeCon 2011. And if there are any surprises, they’re not letting loose with them just yet. As per usual, the event will jump off on August 4 with a keynote from id genius, John Carmack. He’ll talk about technology and stuff for a long time while everyone sits on the edge of their seats waiting for him to utter the words “Doom” and “four....
It doesn’t matter if there’s a global recession and game and console sales are down. You know there has to be some behind-the-scenes work on next-generation consoles going on. If I were a betting man, I’d say that at least preliminary work was going on at all three camps. But who would be the next out of the gate? id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead says that it would have to be Microsoft....
What could be better than jumping into a giant mech, blowing up some buildings, then transforming into a jet and reigning death down on your enemies from the sky? How about doing all of that in space! A massive space station orbits high above a planet’s surface. It is broken up into multiple disconnected platforms, floating in a sea of giant, spinning asteroids. The platforms do have a few structures on them but they consist mostly of large flat areas, allowing plenty of room for players to guide the flow of battle....

According to aNewsweekscoop, Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions will announce today that they are partnering with Aspyr Media to develop an SAT test-prep game for the Nintendo DS, Windows PC, and Mac. The game will presumably mix Kaplan’s popular standardized test preparation methods with “gameplay” similar to other DS learning tools likeBrain Age(orImagine Babyz). Aspyr co-founder Ted Staloch makes it very clear that the software is not meant as a “study break....
InPrey the Stars, you’ll play as one of four cute little monsters that must bite, suck and lick everything in sight. Basically, imagine Katamari Damacy but instead of a rolling up a giant ball, you’re eating everything to make yourself as big as possible. I got some quick hands-on with the game and you can read all about it after the jump. After you pick one of the four playable creatures, you’ll be transported to themed levels (such as shopping malls, mineshaft, refrigerators and more) and have a small playing field to run around on....
One of the first things I thought when the 3DS was announced and I saw that Koei Tecmo was supporting it was, “there’s no way these guys won’t put a massive-boobedDead or Aliveon the thing.” Turns out I was right, as a newDead or Alive, doubtless packed full of giant 3D breasts, is part of the company’s lineup. I was genuinely hoping for something amusing when I opened up this new trailer forKung Fu Panda 2. It is, after all, a comedy film. Instead, what I got was a toned-down Jack Black (not his forté) narrating over some light slapstick involving the titular panda and big, 3D words. Why bother? The set includes the expected four survivors,Bill, Zoey, Louis, and Francis. The 1:18th scale figures look decent, modded from parts of other action figures; Louis’ lower-half, for instance, is taken from a G.I. Joe Shipwreck figure. And Zoey kinda looks like a dude, which is making me a bit uncomfortable....

They illustrated the point by actually showing the game running in the view. After doing this, Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans said, “there’s no reason why features like this could never make it.” His statement sort of echoed technical director David Smith’s earlier statement that “nothing [is] off the table” in regards to content that the community desires....
