Essentially Europe’sGDC, the UK’sDevelop Conferenceaims to bring as much of the continent’s development community together under one roof as possible, for three days of keynotes, seminars and workshops. This year’s is looking like it’s going to be a particularly big one. Respectively, the keynotes will cover gaming community development in the Web 2....

PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 equal platforms for Modern Warfare 3

If you’re worried thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3may see vastly inferior products on systems that are not called “Xbox 360,” then you might be in luck. Infinity Ward has said that there’s no lead platform, with the 360 and PS3 being equal. “We don’t have lead platforms, we develop each version alongside each other,” said community man Robert Bowling. “Xbox 360 is running at same as PS3.” If, like me, you wondered what that meant for the PC version, don’t worry....

Perry: Used games pushing industry to digital distribution

Dave Perry is obsessed with the issue of used games. His rants on the subject have been numerous, andnow he’s implicatedGameStop and its ilk in the game industry’s recent drive to pursue digital distribution. Claiming that his own digital service Gaiki has already made folks at GameStop “hate” him, Perry has basically implied that such services are the company’s own fault. “I’ve made so much money from their store, so I can’t be mean to them about that,” says Perry, talking about Gaikai....

Plenty of time to spill blood: Prototype will be 18-20 hours

I flew out to Las Vegas Tuesday afternoon to get a better look at the much-anticipatedPrototype(the full preview will up later this afternoon, so keep an eye out for that!), and as you may be able to imagine, one of the key questions on my mind was the game’s length, especially considering that news ofinFamousbeing rather shorthas had a lot of gamers feeling like they deserve more. Luckily, what I heard was good news....

Poker Night at the Inventory entices players with TF2 items

How do you get people who aren’t normally interested in poker to buy your poker videogame? Simple. Have it focus on beloved personalities rooted deeply within gamer culture, price it at $4.95, and heck — might as well make sure unlockable items forTeam Fortress 2are included while you’re at it. That is precisely what Telltale’sPoker Night at the Inventoryis doing, anyway, and I’ll be legitamately shocked if they don’t make a killing off of it....

PR walkthrough: These review guides border on the epic

People are often surprised when I tell them about review guides. The very concept of such a thing existing is silly to many gamers. I usually throw review guides away, but I kept the ones forDisney Epic MickeyandSplatterhousebecause, well … look at them. Many of them are just black-and-white printouts stapled together, but these two recently released games went a step beyond for something that is, to be honest, a disposable PR tool that videogame reviewers really oughtnotto be using....

Preview: WireWay

You know, some people are going to kind of hate me for this, but I miss some of those earlier games that came out for the DS. You know what I’m talking about, those games with one gameplay mechanic that lasted for the entirety of the whole experience. I’m talking about games likeKirby: Canvas Curseor Yoshi:Touch and Go; you know, games that did one thing and did it really well. Plus, they just used the DS in a unique and different manner....

Project Natal title Family Rave revealed

The video of Parade Magazine’s A.J. Jacobs and family playing a river rafting Natal gamewas great fun for us this weekend, but this very slight modification of it is absolutely hilarious to me. All they did to make this video — which is sure to be a YouTube smash hit — was add some color rotation and some fun music. Bam — instant rave. Someone needs to insert some glowsticks, Vaseline, and some random pills lying on the floor and we’ll have one of the most realistic videogame experiences ever created....
