Luigi not so awkward anymore: check out this custom-made figure

Being a part of a huge community like Destructoid, it’s easy to miss out on the incredible things people do sometimes, but I always try to keep my eye on community memberekoala2002, who some of you may know better as Kody Koala. While he has created many amazing custom toys, this buffed up version of Luigi brought a wry smile to my face. The artist describes this as his version of “Luigi on Steroids”, which you can see more of on hisFlickr page....

Paradox Interactive has announced that its tongue-in-cheek fantasy gameMagickahas sold over 30,000 copies via digital distribution in less than 24 hours. And they say indie developers don’t stand a chance! Despite a few glitches, the game has done incredibly well, currently sitting at number one in the Steam charts and gaining all manner of praise from gamers and critics for its sense of humor. I’ve given the game a quick spin and I can confirm that it’s most amusing, and quite a lot of fun....

Mario Sports Mix landing in Europe on Feb. 4

Despite the soul crushing fact thatMario Sports Mixis indeed a game that Square Enix is making that stars Mario characters but is not a newMario RPGI have to say that I’m a little intrigued to see if it offers anything new up in the world of Wii sporting games other than haveDragon Questcharacters in it. Do I think my curiousity will be rewarded? @#!*% no, but I won’t have to feel the sting of dissapointment as soon as Europeans do as North America doesn’t have a release date for the game, but the UKjust got oneof Feb....

Matthew Perry needs more game training

Admitting you were injured while climbing Mount Everest to save a bunch of orphaned children while also wooing a large group of women is cool. Admitting you injured yourself because you were playingFallout 3too much, likeMatthew Perry did onThe View, is not cool. Not for the reason that playing videogames that much is uncool — it isn’t. It is, however, uncool that Matthew Perry’s hands are so weak. Really, if you’re able to’t handle the gaming fire get out of the gaming kitchen....

If you’ve suffered from the sticker-shock blues of wanting an Xbox 360, but were leaning more towards the Wii due to the price factor, then help could be right around the corner. That is, if the group project manager atMicrosofthas anything to say about it. Speaking toBloomberg, David Hufford made it known that the guys behind the Xbox brand are anything but ignorant to the fact that the much talked about $199 price point is the sweet spot that all console makers should strive for....

Mobsterlicious: Mafia II announcement debut trailer

For your viewing pleasure, here is theMafia IItrailer that debuted last night during the Spike Video Game Awards. It’s crazy how far graphics and game technology have come for storytelling. What you see above is powered entirely by 2K Czech’s engine, which lets them tell this 1950s Hollywood movie-ish mobster world story in style. Graphics aren’t everything, but I don’t think you’ll find much to complain about as far asMafia II’s visuals go....

More free Mass Effect 2 stuff for Cerberus Network users!

Perhaps the exclamation point is overkill — the latest free add-on forMass Effect 2is simply a new heavy weapon. Nothing more, nothing less. The Arc Projector, as BioWare has so lovingly named it, can now be downloaded for anyone with access to the Cerberus Network storefront. On the other hand, the gun sounds rather fun to use. You point it at things you want to electrocute to death, and splash damage plays a big role in its effectiveness....

MotionPlus not supported by older games, enslaved in rubber

We recentlygot the good newsfrom Nintendo that they’d be shipping their Wii MotionPlus Wii Remote add-on to retail on June 8. While my general thinking is that this should have been included as part of Wii Remote functionality since day one, I’ll take what we can get, and will admit I can’t wait to take advantage of the possibilities in the future. The keyword here is “future,” as Nintendo has come forth and squashed any theories that older titles — particularlyWii Sports— would be update or “patched” to take advantage of the new functionality....
