Embarrass yourself on a first date with NewsBreaker Live

About a month ago Ipostedabout a game onmsnbc.comcalledNewsBreaker. In it, the player participates in aBreakout-like game to reveal actual news stories that are updated throughout the day. To be honest, I found it strangely disturbing (I played it right around the time of the Virginia Tech shootings, so most of the bonus news I unlocked was very negative, to say the least), but I respected the site for trying something different....

Fanboyism should be called religous fandamentalism

We’ve all seen fanboys before. Ranting and raving, upsetting themselves by pretending thatotherpeople are trying to upset them, feeling persecuted while happily persecuting others. Wait, did I just describe fanboys or religious fundamentalists? It’s so hard to tell the difference sometimes. In fact, the two groups are similar enough to be considered identical. The more I think about it, the more I feel that “fanboy” is not quite strong enough a word to describe the hardcore insanity of the average Sony obsessive, Microsoft loyalist or Nintendo worshiper....

Feburary NPD: PS3 outsells Xbox 360 again, Wii & DS make up 50% of hardware

If you had to boil down this month’s NPD numbers to one statement, it wouldn’t be about any particular system (despite how my headline reads). “Videogames are blowing up” would probably be the best summary. The industry as a total is up 34 percent, hitting $1.33 billion. Gamers laugh in the face of recessions! Sony did it again, andMicrosoft called it. Sony’s press release used the word “eclipse” when referring to its sales against Xbox 360’s....

Former executive condemns EA and its ‘bankrupt’ strategy

Electronic Arts isn’t doing very well at the moment, and Electronic Arts would have you believe that’s all the economy’s fault. However, former EVP Mitch Lasky has a more damning reason for EA’s failings — it’s the fact that Electronic Arts has totally dropped the ball. “While Activision was setting sales records withCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, EA had no major hits,” writes Lasky, “although, in fairness theCOD:MW2revenue was probably just filling in a sinkhole at Activision created by a music game business that has fallen off a cliff....

Free App of the Day: Pandora War

Pandora Waris a game in which people want to attack your temple because they are evil for some reason. You are God or something and can use magic spells, as well as hired mercenaries, to defend the temple and drive back the attack. In between attacks, you can upgrade your magic, improve your mana, strengthen your soldiers and hire more units. It’s a pretty decent wave-based defense game although the balance between defense and strength can be pretty damn tight and unforgiving....

Free Modern Warfare 2 night vision goggles

Yep, that’s right. To celebrate the release of the “Stimulus Pack” expansion forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, Microsoft and Activision are giving every Xbox Live user a free set of night vision goggles… for their avatars! Just think how adorable they’ll look on your avatar’s cartoonish little head. Hey, it’s free. No reason not to download it, I guess. And, on a happy side note, if you managed to get suckered into buying this junk for your avatar prior to the start of the promotion, you’re getting a refund for the points you spent so you aren’t getting screwed (by anybody other than yourself) with the purchase....

What’s an Xbox 360 worth to you? Mine isn’t worth sh*t. I think it’s going to blow up soon, actually. But one Yale University student’s Xbox 360 is worth so much more to him than the $300-$400 asking price. Try $1 million. Jesse Maiman, 21, claims that US Airways stole a video game console from his luggage. He filed a suit Monday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, saying that he wants a million bucks in compensation....

GC 09: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks pics and vid

Not much has been seen ofThe Legend of Zelda: Spirit Trackssince it was announced eighty ten billion thousand years ago. All we knew was that it involved a train. We still don’t knowmuchmore than that, but have some screenshots and a video anyway. I was never really enthused withPhanton Hourglass, due to the fact that the game tried to make the touch-screen controls do too much. It was great in theory, but a game that relies too much on the stylus can become confused and muddled....
