The Witcher says, ‘Merry Christmas’

Geralt of Rivia doesn’t strike us as the kind of person who likes to celebrate events outside of his own murderous victories against various beasts. But there he is above, carrying a powdered evergreen while a troop of menacing dwarves surround him. We’re not sure what exactly is happening here, but the message is quite clear: Merry Christmas from the team that built the fabulous PC RPGThe Witcher.

Today’s XBLA sales are simply ridiculous

The daily sales that come and go on Xbox Live can be hit or miss, but today’s are just insane. All of them are 50% off, down from 1200 Microsoft points: You can’t really go wrong with any of these, and one might say they represent some of the best of what’s on Xbox Live Arcade. Valve introduces the Steam Wallet

Valve is currently beta testing a new addition to Steam, the creatively titled Steam Wallet. With Steam Wallet, customers can pop up to a $100 into their accounts for use at a later date. It works pretty much like the PlayStation Network and, to a lesser extent, Microsoft Points (lesser because it doesn’t involve pretend toy monetary systems). You simply get an option stock up the cash and wait for a game you want, then pay for it with the Wallet instead of direct from a credit card....

Valve: Let players fund videogame development

Some would say that the games industry would be better for everybody if publishers weren’t around. Similar to how record labels helped kill music and become an unnecessary middle-man between musicians and music fans, so too can publishers feel like they get in the way. Valve’s Gabe Newell, may havefound a wayaround it, but you’ll need to dig deep into your own pocket if you agree. “One of the areas that I am super interested in right now is how we can do financing from the community,”explains Gabe Newell....

Venetica comes to the UK

Back in the day I wrote for one of those ‘girl gaming’ websites (yes, I know) and one game announcement that really caught my attention wasVeneticaby German developers Deck13. The game all but fell off the radar for me until I got invited to their booth at Gamescon, only to find all their consoles had died and I couldn’t see it. The game is already out in mainland Europe but until being picked up by independent publisher Mastertronic who claim “Veneticais a European breath of fresh air in a genre dominated by the Americans and Japanese,” no UK release date had been given for this game....

Virtual lovin’ leads to real stabbin’

The Something Awful forums are a lot like the French Salons of the 19th century. They are a place where the erudite and cultural elite can amass to share philosophies, questions and ideals. Of course, they are also home to some of the most idiotic things on the Internet, and as of January 12th, they became home to pictures of a fat stabbing victim andhis pathetically hilarious story. SA Goon, TaintSupportSc0tt, is by no means a small man, as you can see in the above picture, but he still did not deserve the vicious attack by his adulterous wife....
