Ni no Kuni footage provides your daily dose of whimsy

Leave it to Studio Ghibli and Level-5 to sell us on the importance of art direction. It’s a major reason whyNi no Kuniis the Tokyo Game Show title to impress me most, even as someone who plays maybe one JRPG every few years. Dale wrote some kind words about the game based on hishands-on time, but if it’s video you’re craving, we have got that too. Watchthis footageand be amazed. Seriously, he was flying a dragon across the overworld map....

Out of phase: Renegade Kid’s Moon delayed until June 23, 2025

If you were looking to explore the cold, dark surface of Renegade Kid’s Nintendo DS exclusiveMoonthis month, it looks like you’re going to have to wait. Publisher Mastiff has announced that the portable first-person shooter will now be released on May 26, 2025. Originally slated for a November 18 release, Mastiff gives no reason for the delay, but with the barrage of high-profile titles set to hit shelves this month, it’s probably better Moon finds a home on shelves early next year....

Pac-Man VS. coming to DS; deluge of touching/swallowing jokes coming to ‘net

RememberPac-Man VS.? It was thatwacky, ingenious, 4-player GameCube versionofPac-Man, in which four people equipped with their own Gameboy Advances, would e-LARP the cat-and-mouse orgy of death that isPac-Man. The title was completely overlooked by the average gamer, as it was only released as a “pac”-in (damn I’m clever!) withPac-Man World 2,I-NinjaandR: Racing Evolution; games that were largely relegated to fluffing copies ofLuigi’s Mansiondue to their unappealing main characters and theirexcellenceat masturbating faux-Italian plumbers....

PC version of Prince of Persia won’t be receiving DLC

The PC version of Ubisoft’sPrince of Persiawon’t be receiving downloadable content. Ever. A recent posting by Ubisoft’s community manager on their official message board carries the bad news. “Unfortunately for business reasons we won’t be seeing anPoPDLC appear,” he told users. “Sorry guys!” he exclaimed over the Internet after punching every PC owner of the game in the gut with a mere sentence. What the hell will bePrince of Persia’sDLC? It’s called “Epilogue” and it’s due out in late February....

Philadelphia hates Hitman: Poster pulled for daring to have a gun on it

Considering Philadelphia is filled with violence and some of the worst kind of professional wrestling fans, it amuses me to think they’re so upset over a poster that has a gun on it. Under the guise of bemoaning the shooting of cop Chuck Cassidy, this hilarious reportfrom thePhiladelphia Daily Newscelebrates the removal ofHitmanmovie posters from its city. “… Ads glorifying gun violence to sell movies can be particularly sickening. So we’re glad to report that some in City Hall are taking it personally and saying, “Enough is enough,” claims the story’s writer, doing his/her best to sound like a 1950’s housewife....

PlayStation 3 version of Age of Booty gets Trophies and a demo

Trophies, ahoy! Today, Trophy support was added forAge of Booty. There are ten rewards, none of them containing my three favorite words: “plunder,” “rape,” and “pillage.” However sanitary, players shouldn’t get discouraged — the silver and gold Trophies are going to take some good, solid time to earn. Here’s a short list; the full one is available after the break: In addition to in-game rewards, Capcom has released a trial version of the game....

PlayStation Home is full of dirty chavs!

As if PlayStation Network’sHomeservice didn’t warrant enough of a stigma, recent stats confirm that it has become the Bluewater Shopping Center of virtual worlds, as gangs of “hoodies” nowstalk its digital halls. British readers will understand what a “hoodie” is, the hooded sweater that chavs are famous for wearing over their baseball caps and scarves (“hoodie” is also another nickname for a chav, since it’s part of their “uniform”). The hooded sweatshirt, just like in real life, is the most popular piece of clothing purchased onHome, followed by theResident EvilG-virus shirt....

Podtoid 112 is Double Dragon-free, thank God

Back to the regularly irregular news episodes that made Podtoid sofamousquasi-popularat least moderately well known within the Destructoid communitylong-running. Tonight, Jim, Aaron, Topher and I (Samit may be on a plane, or something) will discuss theShadow Complexboycott, the PS3 slim, sociopathic game heroes, and other topics. And listener questions, obviously, which we hope you will provide after the jump. Also, Podtoid is now recording on Tuesdays — hope that doesn’t screw anything up for you....

Preview: Fluidity

Fluidityis way better than in looks, so much so that it’s making me depressed. I seriously doubt that this game is going to find its audience when it’s released for WiiWare tomorrow. It looks too much like your average throw-away “edu-tainment” WiiWare title to get most gamers’ attention. That’s a shame, because beneathFluidity‘s bland exterior lies an smart, surprising, and thoroughly “game-y” videogame. Fluidityis a puzzle platformer that manages to pack a huge breadth of gameplay experiences together into a tight and clever little package....

Professor Layton and the Mask of the Miracle Afro

Have you seen seen Layton’s hair in his debut 3DS title,Professor Layton and the Mask of the Miracle? He’s totally got an afro now, and I think it’s awesome. Reportedly, part of the game takes place in the present day, and the part of it takes place during Layton’s teenage years; a time in Layton’s life when he didn’t constantly wear a top hat. Maybe that’s why he needs a hat that big; to contain all that voluminous hair....

PS3 to play Xvid and DivX?

Well, not yet. But, after thisweek’s version 2.0 updatehas been installed, it seems that the PS3 is “aware” of more video file types, including the DivX and Xvid video codecs. Thesharp and beady eyes of Kotakunoticed that the PS3 now can “see” these once unseen, unsupported file types in the system’s browser. It’s a shame that these files won’t play (yet), but if the file types are now acknowledged, it could point to something that Sony may be working on for a future update....

PSN Pass discovered hiding in Resistance 3 (Update)

[Update:Sonyhas confirmedthat the “Network Pass” is legitimate and will act the same way as previous online passes, making use of a one-time code to activate online functionality. I can now safely adopt my previously tentative, “F*ck ’em the wankers” position.] Withonline passesproving dismayingly popular despite inconveniencing customers and devaluing an important part of the industry, it’s hardly surprising that more greedy publishers want to horn in on the racket. It’s speculated that Sony may join the ranks of the moneygrubbing with its own “PSN Pass” scheme....
