As expected,Super Mario Galaxywas a pretty great game. We’re pretty sure it could have been an epic disaster, and still sold a ton, so we’re not surprised when Nintendo’s George Harrison brags about its success. “Super Mario Galaxyhad the strongest one-week debut of any Wii game to date and has also become the best-selling Mario title ever in its first week, with U.S. sales of more than 500,000, based on internal sales figures,” he says in a press release issued today....

If you’re a fan of silly statistics, then pay attention! Nintendo has today revealed that in Japan and the US alone, 100 million Miis have been created by Wii users since the system launched in 2006. That’s 20 million Japanese Miis and 80 million American ones. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata boasted of the news at a recent games seminar. Despite dropping such huge numbers, Iwata was unwilling to confirm just how many of those 100 million Miis are either Hitler or Jesus....

CombiningDead Spacewith backpacks is one of those “crazy enough to work” ideas — who knew? For those who haven’t played the game, Visceral basically took protagonist Isaac Clarke’s suit, complete with the vertebrae-esque health bar, and slapped it on a backpack. I’m telling you this because I desperately needed filler content. See, it’s working! You’ll be able to buy this merchandise from the studio’s store at some point, although details like pricing and when exactly it’ll go on sale haven’t been determined yet....

Every once in a while, Destructoid features editor Anthony Burch discusses game design and gamer culture in his “Rev Rant” video series. Overlordwas one of my favorite games of 2007. Its unique gameplay, evil-minded focus and silly sense of humor outshone the technical issues and awkward controls to create a fun and memorable title that proudly sits among my top titles of this generation. Overlord IIattempts to pull the same stunt, shining through with some ambitious new ideas and a chance to be far more tyrannical. However, the game’s problems seem to have increased since the last game, with new ideas bringing new issues....
