No surprise: Super Mario Galaxy tears it up at retail

As expected,Super Mario Galaxywas a pretty great game. We’re pretty sure it could have been an epic disaster, and still sold a ton, so we’re not surprised when Nintendo’s George Harrison brags about its success. “Super Mario Galaxyhad the strongest one-week debut of any Wii game to date and has also become the best-selling Mario title ever in its first week, with U.S. sales of more than 500,000, based on internal sales figures,” he says in a press release issued today....

Oh look, more Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes screenshots

Here are a load of screenshots forSengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes. Not that it matters since I’m the only person who cares. There are tigers and men with giant cannabis plants sticking out of his back if that’ll make it more interesting for you. No? Okay then. I’m still really excited for this and I want to hear further word of a US release. I would very much like to waggle a Wii remote to kill hundreds of Japanese people....

Over 100 million Miis created since Wii launched

If you’re a fan of silly statistics, then pay attention! Nintendo has today revealed that in Japan and the US alone, 100 million Miis have been created by Wii users since the system launched in 2006. That’s 20 million Japanese Miis and 80 million American ones. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata boasted of the news at a recent games seminar. Despite dropping such huge numbers, Iwata was unwilling to confirm just how many of those 100 million Miis are either Hitler or Jesus....

Add in that she’s suited up in such a fashion to blast the everliving daylights out of drooling zombies, and you’ve got a killer concept on your hands. Suffice to say that I made a beeline forDestineer’s boothin order to check outLittle Red Riding Hood’s Zombie BBQas soon as humanly possible....

Please let this be the last AvP trailer …

Yes, it’s time for yet anotherAliens vs. Predatortrailer. The sad thing is, I love Aliens, as I think everybody should have gathered by now. A few months back, I’d jump at the chance to even vaguely mention the franchise on the frontpage of Destructoid. Now the thought of doing so makes me feel agonizingly sick. I don’t think I’ve got enough left in me to write about one moreAvPtrailer. It’s too much....

Pre-order Ghostbusters, get shirt and exclusive DLC

Gamestop has revealed its obligatorypre-order bonusfor Atari’sGhostbusters, and it’s actually pretty snazzy. If you order the game through the nefarious retail giant, you’re able to get your hands on a T-shirt and a piece of exclusive in-game content. Not too shabby. The game content comes in the form of aGhostbusters 2flight suit, “updates your ghost busting look for the rigorous fashion standards of 1991, is more breathable than ever, and makes a statement of individuality without saying a word....

Presenting the Dead Space backpack

CombiningDead Spacewith backpacks is one of those “crazy enough to work” ideas — who knew? For those who haven’t played the game, Visceral basically took protagonist Isaac Clarke’s suit, complete with the vertebrae-esque health bar, and slapped it on a backpack. I’m telling you this because I desperately needed filler content. See, it’s working! You’ll be able to buy this merchandise from the studio’s store at some point, although details like pricing and when exactly it’ll go on sale haven’t been determined yet....

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is lookin’ pretty

So far, I have to admit thatResident Evil; The Darkside Chroniclesis looking pretty darn appealing. Between the fact that’s it’s a follow up toUmbrella Chroniclesand that it’s on rails … wait. Actually, the on rails part doesn’t sound so good.I’m not really cool with on rails unless I’m playingHouse of the Dead. Well, you know what, screw it. These new screens still look really pretty. And Leon and Claire and coming back, and that’s ought to be interesting to say the least....

Rev Rant: f*ck your story

Every once in a while, Destructoid features editor Anthony Burch discusses game design and gamer culture in his “Rev Rant” video series. Firstly, this week’s rant is about the arrogance of games who think their own linear, often noninteractive story is more important than the experience I wish to have with the game mechanics. I make an “all games should do X” statement, which is kind of risky and presumptuous, but I stand by it....

Review: Overlord II

Overlordwas one of my favorite games of 2007. Its unique gameplay, evil-minded focus and silly sense of humor outshone the technical issues and awkward controls to create a fun and memorable title that proudly sits among my top titles of this generation. Overlord IIattempts to pull the same stunt, shining through with some ambitious new ideas and a chance to be far more tyrannical. However, the game’s problems seem to have increased since the last game, with new ideas bringing new issues....
