PSOne games sell badly on Xperia Play, Sony doesn’t care

Sony’sXperia Playphone boasted PSOne games as a major selling point, but customers don’t seem to agree. Less than 1,000 downloads have been registered for the current library of five PSOne titles, excludingCrash Bandicoot, which is pre-installed on phones. Destruction DerbyandJumping Flashare among the poorest performers, only managing to rake 50 to 100 downloads. Not great news at all, but Sony has “no concern” over the failure. “There’s only a few, at the minute, PlayStation One titles there,” said Sony Ericsson’s Dominic Neil-Dwyer, “and there’s the whole PlayStation as a content provider exclusive to the device, the story about that, that will emerge and people will see....

Rare says it doesn’t need to return to old franchises

It seems that Rare isn’t so interested in its classic franchises that made it such a popular developer. In speaking withDevelop, Studio head Mark Betteridge told them that Rare “would only go back to older franchises if we saw an opportunity to make the product in a different way that would do justice to [them].” He followed up by claiming that there “isn’t a need” to reboot their classic franchises, saying that it would be nice to return to their big name games, but that doesn’t mean that they are going to....

Realistic, shiny, sweaty dudes featured in EA Sports MMA

I don’t watch mixed martial arts, but that didn’t stop me from playing and enjoying THQ’s UFC title last year. So needless to say, I have my eye on EA Sports’ response,EA Sports MMA, which is scheduled for release later this year. “Eye on” means I just watched a video of some dudes punching each other, getting sweaty, and then rolling around on the floor. It looks brutal, uncomfortable, and downright nasty....

Reggie thinks Nintendo will have a strong holiday season. Crazy, huh?

MSNBC continues their talks with the top execs from the big three today with Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime. Reggie gives us the good ol’ Nintendo pitch, which comes off a bit better thanMicrosoft’s “we’re the best” blabber, though it doesn’t pull at the heart strings likeSony’s apologetic underdog act. MSNBC comes right out swinging (I like this Kristin Kalning, and that’s not just becauseshe likes my band), asking Fils-Aime how the Wii has managed to avoid becoming the Gamecube 2....
