Activision is going to milk the desiccated teat of Spyro in a whole new way this year. According to USA Today, the publisher is going to unveil a line of toys based on characters from the once-beloved franchise of games which has long suffered from sub-par releases. These toys are designed to interact with a new game,Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, through an accessory. Placing one of the toys on the plastic stand allows players to then use that character in the game....
Another week, another set of Nintendo downloads. NoDomois coming our way, but there are a few treats among the Halloween-themed downloadable offerings across Nintendo’s three digital platforms: WiiWare, DSiWare and Virtual Console. First up, Wiiware, withGhost Mansion Party— a 1,000 Wii Points priced title brought to us via Gameloft. It’s a board game-style party thing that has players wondering around some sort of haunted mansion map. Gameloft is promising that players will use their Wii Remotes in “ways [they’ve] never imagined....
Following in the footsteps of Nintend of Europe, the company’s American cohorts have revealed their Nintendo DS and Wii Q1 2009 line-ups today. Not surprisingly, it doesn’t much different than the European list we showed youearlier this week. The Wii line-up is as expected, with games like Sega’sMadworld(March) and Ubisoft’sTenchu: Shadow Assassins(February) making the Q1 cut. The Wii is consistently sold out and even your mother owns a Nintendo DS. One would figure that Nintendo is more than happy with the profits from their devices and software. But developer Netherrealm is also offering up two free “klassic costumes” with a required update. Alternate costumes for Noob Saibot and Smoke will be made available as part of the latest compatability pack. The costumes won’t change how the fighters perform, but the fresh coat of “klassic” paint may make you want to give them a second look....
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3Dhas managed to prove popular with gamers despite being thirteen years old. Chart data from the British GfK Chart-Track states that 20% of the 3DS’ userbase now owns the game. “We generally find that summer time is a good time for handheld gaming and we have lots of sampling and summertime events to get more people hands on with it — that leads us nicely up to all that great content coming out,” said Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton....
