Square Enix bringing The 4 Heroes of Light overseas

Square Enix has confirmed that it will bringFinal Fantasy Gaidento international audiences under the new name ofThe 4 Heroes of Light. Apparently, use of the numerical symbol for four IS important. 4 Heroesis a decidedly classic JRPG for the Nintendo DS where characters sacrifice battle turns to charge up powerful spells instead of relying on Magic Points. Characters can also change classes in a manner similar to the old school job system, wearing different crowns in order to gain new stats and abilities....

Steam is blowing up, exceeds 15 million accounts

Congratulations are in order for Valve, as they’ve announced that Steam “has surpassed 15 million accounts and realized year-over-year sales growth of 158% through the holiday season.” If you aren’t one of the millions of gamers with aSteam account, you probably think that PC gaming is on its way out and will magically disappear any day now. Fortunately, that isn’t the case — so long as people continue to not like paying for online gaming and prefer the mouse/keyboard setup to a standard gamepad....

Tatsunoko FightSticks to ship alongside game this January

Wii remotes and Nunchucks aren’t ideal devices to play games with, no less games within the fighting genre. So, we weren’t that surprised this afternoon when Mad Catz revealed that its line ofTatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars FightSticksare slated to ship with Capcom’s upcoming game. But tentative assurance is better than no assurance. We expect to be able to test drive one of these babies at CES this week, so look forward to some possible impressions....

Tekken Movie’s first trailer: Like a kick in the balls

“Winning Iron Fist means we win the world.” [fake mustache falls off] I can’t wait to see this. You have to get where I’m coming from first to understand. Know that I watched theDead or Alivemovie about 20 times. Maybe more. It was so impossibly bad that it ended up being more entertaining than any game adaption that tried to be “good.” This first official trailer for the Tekken movie hops around too much for me to know if it has that sameso bad it’s goodmagic, but I already feel pretty good about this one....

Text adventures on my DS? That sounds splendid!

Text adventures are not dead, my friends. Thanks to Malinche Entertainment, you may still engage in what they call “interactive fiction” whenever you like at theMalinche Entertainmentwebsite. All you’ll need is a DS and a copy ofGames N’ Music for DS, which allows you to move music from your PC to any DS compatible cartridge (not that I am suggesting you obtain an R4, Ladies and Gentlepeeps, because I would never do that!...

TGS 09: Oh sh*t, that’s a Bayonetta figure!

There’s plenty of news to be found at the Tokyo Game Show, but after a few hours of prowling the floor I discovered that sniffing around the corners of the floor pays off. Case in point: while checking out the Square Enix merchandise booth in one of the far halls, I discovered two prototype figures fromBayonetta! As you can see, what’s shown here is the lovely lady herself alongside another lass who I am not yet familiar with....

TGS: Final Fantasy X HD announced for PS3 and Vita

Finally! No, wait. Wrong game. Still, I’m jazzed aboutFinal Fantasy Xcoming to the PS3 and the Vita as an HD remake. The remake of the PS2 RPG was announced at Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference this afternoon. Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto said that this game was created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Franchise on PlayStation systems. All we know now is that it will be in HD on the PS3....

The battered wives of the gaming world

You don’t have to be gifted with heightened perception to realize that we, the gaming consumers, are little more than bodies to be harvested by videogame publishers. We are neither liked nor respected, yet we remain as loyal and subservient to our game supplying masters as ever, nothing but trained Labradors at a Dog Show. Only with slightly less power. Publishers know that they can do whatever they like and we will allow them to get away with it, either through a lack of willpower or the general apathy that seems to surround the gamer demographics....

THQ sends us creepy Homefront viral

It’s the year 2027 and the nuclear powered Korean People’s Army have taken over the United States of America. Yes, America is Korea’s bitch in THQ’sHomefront, but the occupiers are at least thoughtful. They’ve released a pamphlet to help Americans deal with their new overloads. The viral isn’t obviously tied toHomefrontbut after asking about iton Twitter, a few people clued me into what was this was all about. This viral is really well done and it’s filled with a ton of propaganda....

Torchlight makes it past 500,000 units sold

Runic Games’Torchlightscratched a very specific itch for many of us. More than 500,000 of us to date, if you want to talk specifics. Now that the point-and-click-heavy RPG has expanded beyond being only available on PC as a digital release, you can bet that number isn’t about to stop climbing anytime soon. One thing that always troubles me about the downloadable games scene — and this goes for all platforms — is an overall unwillingness by developers and publishers to talk about sales....
