Team Fortress 2: Meet the Sandvich

Adding tothe Heavy update goodness, we have got another brilliant video from Valve. This time around, it’s “Meet the Sandvich.” The Sandvichis the first unlockable for the Heavy included in today’s update. Each Sandvich you eat heals you by 120 health, and your supply is unlimited. Team Ninja takes a mild crap on Street Fighter IV 3D

It’s been a while since I’ve seen an honest to goodness fighting game rivalry. There was the faux trash talk between theTekken 6andStreet Fighter IVdevs from late last year, but that was all just to promoteStreet Fighter X Tekken. I don’t think I’ve seen fighting game devsreallytalk smack about each other’s game since theEternal Champions/Mortal Kombat II/Street Fighter IIdays. Maybe it’s the nostalgia talking, but I’m happy to see the genuine return of fighting game developers dogging each others games....

TGS 08: Recon ‘less of a galactic romp’ than Halo 3, Bungie quiet on details

At this point, you probably know everything Bungie and Microsoft want you to know about the upcoming Halo “expansion,”Halo 3: Recon. At behind-closed-doors press meeting at Tokyo Game Show this year, the folks at Bungie were more than happy to talk about the game’s announcement, but unwilling to answer any detailed questions. Behind-closed-doors, Bungie showed off no footage of the game in action. Disappointingly, the trailer that you’ve seen, that’s as much aswe’veseen....

TGS 09: Hands on with Nier Gestalt

While Square Enix licenses and puts out many pretty RPGs these days, I personally haven’t made a really strong connection with any of them. Titles likeInfinite UndiscoveryandThe Last Remnantunfortunately failed to meet my expectations, and even though I have no plans to give up hope, let’s just say my excitement for anything they do other than Final Fantasy has dwindled just a bit. The Nier games seemed like they could possibly be a lot of fun though, and so once I got to TGS today I headed for the Microsoft booth to see if I could get my hands onNier Gestalt....

The Journalism Show: Episode 01

Here it is. After two weeks of demystifying a program I’ve never used before, followed by a two-day fistfight trying to convert the video, I am proud, thrilled, horrified, ashamed and (insert a dozen other emotions here) to bring you the very first episode of The Journalism Show, featuring Geraldo Beedog. This was an unspeakable amount of work, so I hope it turned out okay. Let me know what you think of it....

The myth of casual gaming

“Casual gaming” is a term that has crept into the games industry and taken root with a rapid speed over the past year or so. The so-called casual gamer, a fantastical creature that will yield millions of enchanted dollars and magical potions, is one of the games industry’s most sought after entities. As seemingly adored by the corporations as they are, these casual gamers are equally reviled by their hardcore opposites....

The Reapers aren’t done, influencing enemies in ME 2

The Workman Defense: Ohio Court repeals possibly retarded gamer’s death sentence

This Wednesday the Ohio Supreme Court overturned the death sentence of Clifton White, a man convicted of killing three people. The reason the court overturned the death sentence? During White’s trial he claimed to be mentally retarded, a claim which according to a 2002 U.S. Supreme Court ruling makes a death sentence cruel and unusual punishment. “But how is this at all games related?” you might ask. During White’s original trial his claim of mental retardation (which may or may not be true) was deemed invalid because A) he did not meet the U....

Trophies not coming to PSP

Sony has confirmed that the footage showing a Trophy collection on the screen of a PSP was, in fact, showcasing the remote play feature of the system. It seemed like the more likely explanation for the footage, but even so, it gives me a sad in my heart. “The screen shown on the end of the video showcases the Remote Play function on a PSP,” confirms a Sony rep, “allowing you to take a look at your XMB, Trophies, friends and other content via your PSP....

Unbound Saga has pictures for you to look at

PSP comic-book brawlerUnbound Sagais looking really promising, even if the premise of a self-aware comic book hero still reminds me a little bit too much ofComix Zone. We have some new screenshots of the handheld beat ’em up, showing off the hero and heroine of the title, Rick and Lori. For a PSP game, things are looking really nice and I imagine they’ll look even better with the aid of the system’s screen resolution....
