Microsoft has announced a limited editionHalo: Reachthemed Xbox 360 Slim. The new system will come with a 250GB HDD, twoReachthemed controllers and a copy ofHalo: Reach. The bundle will also include a token for the limited edition Elite armor, an episode ofHalo Legendsand aHalo: Reachthemed wired headset. The system will also feature custom sound effects from theHalouniverse which is, uh, neat I guess. TheHalo: Reachlimited edition console will be available on September 14 for $399....

I like real-time strategy games. I like videogame consoles. Do I like playing real-time strategy games on my videogame consoles?HELL NO!Despite several attempts over the years to give them a fair try, without fail, the clumsy controls always end up pissing me off within a few minutes of play. This is one genre that I just can’t see transitioning well to consoles anytime soon; unless someone comes up with a really innovative control scheme, anyway....

Internet calling service Skype could get the PS3 hook-up, which will give the console the functionality that its portable little brother, the PSP, already has. Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, responded to a user asking if the service will ever come to the PS3. While he didn’t confirm that it would, it did sound like Sony has at least thought about “Our global development teams certainly take into account the relative desirability of the feature set, so consumer needs and technology innovation really drive the product development process....

I don’t know about you folks, but I’m more excited about this than I have been about anything with “Zelda” in its name for over a decade. I’m also looking forward to playing my Wii again, it’s been a long time. Still, I haven’t got a clue what’s going on in this beautiful, but ambiguous opening cinematic....

Everybody act surprised! Earlier this week,Sega teased uswith a list of potential playable characters in its upcomingSonic the Hedgehogreboot, codenamedProject Needlemouse. As we, and likely the world, predicted, the whole thing was merely a ruse — Sonic will be the only playable character inNeedlemouse. This carefully constructed bit of hype serves one purpose — to try and make theSonicfaithful feel optimistic about the new game. The introduction of rubbish new characters is considered to be a huge part of Sonic’s fall from grace, so this is intended as a bold statement — no silly sidekicks, just pure Sonic....

World of Warcraftmay be the biggest MMO around, but you don’t have to take it on to succeed. Cryptic, the folks behindStar Trek Online, certainly feel that way. Said Executive Producer Craig Zinkievich: “We think we’ve made something thatStar Trekfans and gamers alike will enjoy. Maybe some of those fans will come fromWoWand maybe some will be totally new to the MMOG genre. We’re not trying to directly compete withWoWand if our game grows to that success then that would be awesome but for now we’re just worried about getting a good game out there that people will enjoy....

Anyone who passed onAliens vs. Predator—there were a number of good reasons to do so, in my opinion — might want to take a second look at Rebellion’s latest. Throughout this weekend, Steam is offering the first-person shooter for $33.49 (regularly $49.99 for the PC version). At that price, it should be significantly easier to justify. That said, I can easily picture future sales that will dropAliens vs. Predatorto far lower prices....
