The software sales numbers are very impressive, especially seeing as howGTA IVwas only on the market for a few days in April. Atlus hosted another one of their Atlus-O-Weenie Halloween contests this year and the entries were as amazing as ever. Seems like the best cosplayers out there now are the ones that do anything Atlus related. The grand prize winner of the awesomeAtlus games and swagworth over $300 was Isadora Tang who dressed up asMaria fromKnights in the Nightmare. Easy to see why she won the whole thing. I know, I know; the long-running saga of the R18+ rating in Australia has had more false dawns than I care to remember — but it looks like there has finally been an agreement reached to bring Australian’s classification system into the 21st century. At the end of last week, a meeting between state and territory attorney generals agreed in principle to create an R18+ rating for videogames. Only New South Wales abstained in the agreement, but did not actively oppose it....
Your holiday gaming line-up just got a bit less crowded — Take-Two Interactivehas announcedthat it’s movedBioShock 2from fourth quarter of fiscal 2009 to fiscal 2010. Read: probably next year. Unsurprisingly, the publisher cites the need to provided “additional development time for the title,” as well as its revised outlet for the the remainder of fiscal 2009, due to lower-than-expected performance. “The decision to shift a release date is never an easy one, especially with a product as highly anticipated as BioShock 2,” says Chief Executive Officer of Take-Two, Ben Feder....

Electronic Arts has today revealed details about multiplayer for upcoming rock n’ roll action gameBrütal Legend. Billed as a “four versus four skirmish,” action will blend with strategy to create something that’s hopefully a little different from your average online frag-fest. Today, EA announced a substantial special edition ofBurnout Paradisecalled the Ultimate Box. The set will consist the game, all of the recent DLC offerings, some gameplay tweaks, an enhanced PlayStation Network interface, and a brand new mode calledBurnout Paradise Party. Soft drinks, friends, and aspirations of wrecking cars as a profession are not included. The new Party mode is strictly an offline affair, designed to entertain in quick spurts. The mode is designed around the idea of players passing a singular controller around the room while competing in several “quick-fire” challenges in stunt, speed, and skill events....
After talking extensively about the ads and stengths of the browser-based FPSQuake LivewithCVG, John Carmack (co-founder, id) started talking about the implicationsQuake Live’ssuccess could have on one of id’s other successes,Wolfenstein: Enemy Territories. Carmack was willing to say that if theQuake Liveperformed well and people were responsive to it, then tossing the fabled Wolfenstein game into a browser format wouldn’t be a bad direction to go in. If [Quake Live] is successful, we’ve tossed around the idea of taking the Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory game (which was actually always more popular than Q3A in the online space) and doing a similar treatment on it with the experience we’ve gained here....
