The beta for United Front GamesModNation Racershas only been going on for a few days, but those invited to the already have their creative juices flowing. Using the game’s extensive character customization (or “Mods,” as they’re called in the game), creators do what they tend to do when handed such tools — re-create their favorite gaming icons. Sony has just announced at their press conference atGamescomthat the PSP 3000 library will be getting three new colors, officially making it the games system with the widest variety of color options out there (as if it wasn’t that already). The new colors are Turquoise green, Blossom Pink and Lilac Purple. Some will come in bundles (yet to be announced what these will be), but all will also be available for purchase separately as well....
Fantastic Contraption is a Flash-based browser game. Colin Northway is the man who made it. He is now a full time game developer for it. It’s as simple a story as the game itself. The Independent Games Summit of GDC Austin 09 gave Colin and his game tester/community manager, Andy Moore, half an hour to present the postmortem. The duo are a very colorful pair that had a lot of strange and entertaining things to say and show about the game, how it was made, and how it became a successful business venture....
TheGears of Warmovie is right around the corner. Screenwriter Chris Morgan says that things are actually in the budgeting phase now. And since they’re already thinking about money, this would probably be a good time to decide who will be playing the lead role of Marcus Fenix. “Normally when I write, I think about the actor I’m writing for, but this one’s been difficult,” Morgan toldMTV Movie Blog. I’m with him....
Modern Warfare 2may be one of the biggest, most mainstream games ever to be released, but it’s also been the most controversial. Aside from the wholePC debacle, Infinity Ward has alsogenerated much debateover the infamous “airport scene,” in which players get to shoot unarmed civilians in an airport. Unsurprisingly, game-hating Germany has a problem with this, and so will be getting its owncensored version. In the German version ofModern Warfare 2, you will not be allowed to kill the civilians without punishment....
Three regions will compete (North America, United Kingdom, and Continental Europe) through February, with the top four players in each region particiating in regional finals in early March. Four finalists (two from North America, and one each from those other stinky regions that arenotNorth America) will go head-to-head in a live showdown, which will take place during the 6th Annual THQ Superstar Challenge on March 27 at the House of Blues Orlando, Florida....

I had a feelingGears of War 3was going to be good, but now I know it’s going to be awesome! Actor/rapper Ice-T has revealed that he’ll be playing a role in Epic’s upcoming third-person shooter. The role was casually mentioned during a liveUstreambroadcast; he quickly added “I didn’t just say that.” After actually saying it, of course. While this has yet to be confirmed by Epic or Microsoft, as Giant Bomb’s Jeff Gerstmannpoints out, Ice-T doesn’t have to lie — his life is ridiculous enough as it is....
