New trailer for The Old Republic shows off the smuggler

Recently, BioWare detailed the progression of the smuggler class inStar Wars: The Old Republic, which is clearly inspired by Han Solo if not entirely based on him. Scoundrel and gunslinger are the two paths that you can go down if you ultimately decide to pick the smuggler class. I have absolutely no idea what the pros and cons are because the trailer was completely unrepresentative of the game. Now, what Ididget from this trailer was that you can kick people in the crotch, pistol whip them, punch them in the face and kill absolutely everything with a single shot....

Ni No Kuni ads make us desperate for the game

Ni No Kuni: The Jet Black Sorcererlanded in Japan recently and they got some great ads for it. OK, so the ads are just normal ads, but they show off the game, which instantly makes them great. Look at that massive instruction book. It’s glorious! There is still no U.S. release date which makes us very, very sad. I think Colette summed it up best in response to this tip coming in: “I want this game so bad I could cry....

Nintendo DLC: Gambling and disco lights

The variety of downloadable weekly releases for Nintendo’s game systems never fails to amaze me. This week’s offerings are truly a random blend of styles and genres. What’s great is that most of this week’s offerings are pretty nifty. ZALLAG’sGods vs Humanssounds pretty cool. This 1,200 Wii Point WiiWare title has you playing one of 16 gods from the worlds various mythologies, striking down humans that attempt to enter your domain....

Nintendo: The ugly friend of the hot girl?

[Editor’s note: Liz, we love you, thank you for representing Dtoid down under! -Niero] Now I have to explain something, something anyone from outside of Australia wouldn’t get at first. Nintendo’s Media Summit Day impressions by everyone but Destructoid

Last week in San Francisco, home of three Destructoid writers and our resident camera guy, Nintendo held a Media Summit showing off a ton of their upcoming games for the Nintendo Wii and DS. Some of our friends in the industry got a chance to play a bunch of the games and have written up a thing or two on them. Wondering where Destructoid’s coverage is? Yeah, we are too. Our invitations must have gotten lost in the mail among the flood of robot love letters we constantly get....

Pachter says gaming world isn’t coordinated, causes delays

Recently it seems that the gaming industry has finally realized that releasing all of its vidoegames during the fourth quarter holiday season isn’t the best plan of attack. Too many games get lost in the shuffle. This knowledge has brought about the idea that maybe one shouldn’t release all of one’s big releases against every other company’s big releases. Because of Captain Obvious finally getting through to the game industry a plethora of holiday gameshave beendelayed....

PAX East 10: Hydrophobia gets trailer, makes us wet

Hydrophobia, the episodic XBLA game from Dark Energy, got its first ever trailer today, and we really like what we see. Although totally different in terms of gameplay,Hydrophobiaappears to continue the work started by last year’sShadow Complex— providing a game with retail production values and something a little deeper than the usual downloadable efforts. We have to say that it looks great so far. Could well rival last year’s hit XBLA game too, especially if it keeps up the graphical quality....

[Editor’s note: eternalplayer2345 shares with us a very touching story about gaming with his brother for hisMonthly Musingpiece. — CTZ] To start off, I’m not entirely sure what inspired me to blog about this.
