Franco Frattini, the justice and security commisioner of Europe, is among the main causes for this particular bit of faggotry. Here’s the statement from a 505 spokesperson addressing the issue: “Following discussions with our retail and publishing partners, 505 Games has taken the decision not to publishRule of Rosein the UK at this time....

Uncharted 2 designer concedes story lags in final act

During “Among Friends,” Richard Lemarchand’sUncharted 2postmortem at GDC 10, the co-lead designer admitted that the macro-design of the story and gameplay beats early on in production resulted in a mechanically exciting, but narratively lacking final act in the mythic city of Shambhala. “There aren’t really enough strong story beats there to match the length and the intensity of the gameplay,” Lemarchand said. “At the end of the day, we’d committed too much to the level in terms of its final art and we couldn’t really bring about a perfect fit [between the story and the action]....

Venti Brains Latte? Capcom trademarks ‘Zombie Cafe’

Capcom hasnabbed a US trademarkfor “Zombie Cafe,” in relation to “computer game software” and all of that jazz that comes with these kinds of things. No clue what this is, but Capcom does have a soft spot for the undead, with games likeResident EvilandDead Risingin its portfolio. I immediately think of the maid cafes of Japan, where waitresses dress up in tiny outfits, acting like servants for customers. Maybe “Zombie Cafe” is like that, except instead of the servers bringing you food, youarethe food....

Vote in Backlog Series 18: Fun for the Whole Family

Things got a little … adult at times during our previous series ofBacklog. My own foul response to the challenges of playingParasite Eve IIwhen paired with the unusually salacious dialog (helped in no small part by my desire to make Kyle come off as a serial something or other) has made me feel the need to take a shower and wash the filth off. So for our next series, we’re going to venture into the some more lighthearted fare....

War for Cybertron gets hot new video, hot new robots

Activision has sent over the latest assets forTransformers: War for Cybertron. Firstly, there’s a brand new video outlining the game’s story. Key notes involve the introduction of Bumblebee and Starscream’s backstory. As a huge fan of Starscream (and hisTwitter account), I’m really anxious to see what they do with everybody’s favorite robotic backstabber. Three new characters have also been introduced. First up is Sideswipe, a competitive Autobot with a need for speed....

Will digital distribution ‘save’ PC gaming? Some think so

More and more these days, anytime you see the word “digital distribution” in a sentence, chances are high you can also find “Stardock” nearby. Not that there’s anything wrong with that — Stardock CEO Brad Wardell usually has some pretty insightful things to say about the subject. Talking withGamasutra in an interview, Wardell made a comment that could be deemed as hyperbolic, but I actually find the statement to be accurate: “A lot of publishers are viewing digital distribution as the thing that is going to save PC....

Will Wright talks toys, looks like a homeless Leonard Nimoy

No one would claim that Will Wright is anything short of a genius, but his current look is a cross between prosthetic-fetishism and turn-of-the-century hobo chic. He seems to be waiting for the invention of hover trains so he can gather his belongings in a lycra bag, attach it to a retractable carbon-fiber baton, and travel the country in search of nano-vittles and robo-hooch. My Mr. Blackwell impersonation aside — oh, he WISHES he could come up with something like “robo-hooch” — Mr....

You might want to check Circuit City again

We told youearly last monththat electronics retailer Circuit City was closing over 150 stores. That’s big news, as they held up about 10% of the US games market. Damn this economy! We saw their “everything must go” sales last month, but were not impressed. They discounted their games a measly 5%. What bullsh*t! You could do better than that discount just about anywhere, especially on the internet. That doesn’t even take care of tax!...
