From simple 8-bit still image interpretations to full-on games, demakes are delightful. I love to fantasize about the ways modern games and their mechanics might have been implemented on classic consoles. As is often the case with fan efforts, however, many of the actual games which result from this can be less than impressive. Above is an example of a game which looks as though it will fall on the better end of the spectrum....

Sony thought that they were pulling a fast one (not really!) by sending Destructoid’s resident golf game whore (yours truly) the review copy ofHot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2for the PlayStation Portable. It’s not hard to see their reasoning; I did give the recent PS3 releasea pretty good score, and I’m constantly gushing about the series’ titles. Sorry, guys. I’m not that easy. The fighting game franchise is one that’s captivated players in the arcades and on 5 consoles (PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, XBox and XBox 360) for years, with it’s arcade style mechanics that cater to both the softcore and hardcore gamer. And really, what’s not to love? This game’s got it all: The fighting, the girls, the costumes, the jigglies… I’m sorry, I’m getting off track, much like the creators of theDead or Alivemovie when they started working on it....

Can’t get enoughBrutal Legend? That’s good, because Double Fine may not be done with it just yet. In a recent post-game-release chat withGamePro, Double Fine’s Tim Schafer reveals that the developer is keen on not only tweaking the game with an update, but adding even more content. “We definitely want to do more DLC for both single-player and multiplayer,” he says. Thefirst bit of downloadable contentwas for the game’s multiplayer, called “Tears of the Hextadon,” and was made available for the downloadin’ last month....

After what feels like ten years of defending this game from cynicism and letting my cautious optimism ring out across the land, I finally took the long-awaited opportunity to putSonic the Hedgehog 4through its paces at E3. I took on the Xbox 360 version, and while Dale North alreadyhas a cool preview up, I can’t help chiming in with my own Jimpressions. So,Sonic 4currently gets a confident “yes” from me. It’s a damn good game from the three acts I played, with gorgeous graphics, wonderful sound, and a truly classic feel that this Sonic fan really appreciates....

Let’s face it, the current Nintendo 3DS library is a bit disappointing. Even if you don’t agree with that sentiment, it’s not debatable that Capcom’s support for the system has been nothing short of impressive. Its port ofSuper Street Fighter IVwas spectacular, and the upcomingResident Evil: The Mercenaries 3Dlooks solid. Still, neither game truly brings original content to the handheld. That all changes next year withResident Evil: Revelations, a fresh and true installment in Capcom’s popular franchise....

Earlier today, we found out aboutthe Kinect integrationforMass Effect 3. That was cool for the time being, but now we have the real news: the game hits Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on March 6 of next year. There’s also talk of aMass Effect 3N7 Collector’s Edition. It includes in-game appearance packs, a Dark Horse comic book, a hardcover art book, and an exclusive extended soundtrack, lithograph, and N7 patch....

Without a doubt, Irrational Game’sBioShock Infiniteis one of the standout games of this year’s E3. A few weeks back, I had a chance to get anearly look at the latest demo for the title, which effortlessly dropped by jaw to the floor. This week at E3, Irrational has brought a slightly more polished version of the demo to the show. The demo impressed Tara Long so much that she cornered Irrational co-founder and creative director Ken Levine to find out more about the stunning world ofBioShock Infinite....
