BioWare co-founder: JRPGs suffer from ‘lack of evolution’

While up at BioWare’s headquarters in Edmonton, I had the opportunity to throw some questions at company co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk. I was curious about how the duo felt about the current RPG landscape in general, and why we’re seeing more and more western-style RPGs while JRPGs have, at least among North American audiences, fallen somewhat to the wayside. “The fall of the JRPG in large part is due to a lack of evolution, a lack of progression,” Zeschuk said....

Using the book as the basis of a simulated news broadcast, Welles and his cast members detailed the invasion of Earth by a race of malevolent Martians. While much of what happened after is more suited for the subject of urban legends, there are still reports of panic and hysteria following the broadcast....

Buy this awesome Herbie Hancock-signed Rock Band bundle, help a good cause

Sure, maybe you already ownRock Band. But is it signed by Grammy award-winning jazz musician Herbie Hancock? Yeah, I didn’t think so; your copy ofRock Bandfails. While rubbing elbows with celebs at this year’s Grammy awards, Harmonix had the pleasure of playing their game with the legend (and the Pussycat Dolls, from what I understand, although I may have just dreamed that). Thinking on their feet, they had Hancock and some of his musician buddies sign a special edition Xbox 360 bundle....

Capcom iPhone game made by first-year employees

This reminds me of those places where you can get a “cheap gourmet” meal from chefs in training. Or a $4 haircut from barbers in training. The difference here is that this looks good! Capcom first-year employees made this new iPhone game calledPlanet Work. It’s spacemen cleaning up planets, and it is only an iPhone game, but that’s still really cool that only first-years worked on this. We’re talking mostly guys fresh out of college, just getting their feet wet at Capcom, says1UP....

Counter-Strike hitboxes gone wrong

Just before you recall memories of accusing a mess of people for haxoring all over yourCounter-Strike: Source, Florian fromKotakufound this video that shows that there seemed to be a glitch in the Matrix. Makes me kinda sick to see stuff like this because I always liked to believe there was some basic level of integrity in my first-person shooter. So what do you all think of stuff like this? Game breaking bs or just a necessary evil (apparently it helped with potential lag)?...
