Blizzardhas announced that everyone attending the upcoming Blizzcon would be entitled to quite a bit of gaming goodness, not the least of which may have something to do withStarcraft 2, or possibly a previously unannounced game (Whatever it could be?! They have so many IP’s to choose from!): All BlizzCon attendees will receive their share of freeBlizzardswag, to be announced in a future update. Even though Blu-ray discs can berotten(literally!), they are now the only high-definition format thatBlockbusteris going to back. Blockbuster drives in what is probably the final nail in the coffin for the HD-DVD format disc. The company announced that they will only offer Blu-ray format in 1,450 of its stores, dropping HD-DVD forever. They say that customers are choosing Blu-ray more than 70 percent of the time. “The consumers are sending us a message....

Brownie Brown is not a hooker, but it’s looking for work. President of the studio, Shinichi Kameoka recently spoke toSiliconeraabout the developer’s desires for the future. Kameoka said that he would “like to try making games for the Wii” and Brownie is “optimistic about it and looking into it.” If Brownie were to create a console game, it would be their first. The studio has only dabbled in portable titles thus far....

Lugaru, the much-beloved indie game which can be most easily and enjoyably described as “a violent kung fu revenge story starring rabbits,” will be available fora fourth of its usual asking priceuntil November fourth. I had a relatively difficult time recommending the game for $20 back when I wrote anindie nationon it, but the game’s a downright steal for $5. The combat system is enjoyably deep and challenging, the story is so weird it can’t help but become interesting, and the version that’s on sale evidently has updated HD textures or something (though, to be honest, you wouldn’t know it from the trailer on the Direct2Drive page)....

Resident Evil 5‘s “new” control scheme (which really isn’t new) has been the subject of much criticism among gamers. In response to the complaints, Capcom has used the same argument I’ve been using, defending its design choices by saying that the restrictive gameplay heightens tension and makes for a more thrilling experience. “We went in knowing that we weren’t making a typical third or first person shooter; we were making aResident Evilgame,”explainsproducer Jun Takeuchi....

This was later followed with news that the game itself would not be an emotional roller-coaster of zombified children, but more like a cross betweenLeft 4 DeadandBorderlands. “It not uncommon to start a campaign with a CGI trailer that reveals the setting of a game and subtly hints at the game experience — and the Dead Island short film does that perfectly,” said Deep Silver’s Georg Larch....

Two days ago I had a chance to sit down — via telephone — with Ben Bell, the Senior Producer on the upcoming multiplatform titleThe Sims 2: Castaway. The big difference for this edition is that instead of living comfortably in virtual suburbia, your Sim(s) now have to contend with the wilds of a tropical island after having become stranded there like so many Sherwood Schwartz sitcoms....

BioWare’sDragon Age: Originshas blood and sex. (Let that sink in for a moment.) The universally lauded RPG developer has finally pulled the veil on its self-labeled “dark heroic fantasy” game, revealing, well, blood and sex. You can view some footage of said grittiness after the jump. You shouldn’t be too surprised. BioWare has consistently cited authors like George R.R. Martin as inspiration for this project. Martin has never pulled any punches and if this trailer is any true indication of the final product, it looks like BioWare won’t either....

The developer is asking fans to come to PAX East wearing a costume of their favorite Twisted Pixel Games character. Just show up at the booth and get your picture taken; the person wearing the team’s favorite costume will get modeled into an upcoming Twisted Pixel game of the developer’s choosing....
