Driver: San Francisco dev defends ‘always on’ DRM

Ubisoft Reflections founder Martin Edmonson has defended“Always On” DRM, which requires gamers to permanently be online so they can constantly prove their innocence to Ubisoft. DespiteDriver: San Franciscorelaxing its DRMin the face of PC gamer backlash, Edmonson is still a big believer in the system. “You have to do something,” he argued to Eurogamer. “It’s just, simply, PC piracy is at the most incredible rates. This game cost a huge amount of money to develop, and it has to be, quite rightly, quite morally correctly, protected....

ESRB’s Deadly Premonition rating confirms PS3 release

We’re pretty excited aboutDeadly Premonition, the $19.99 horror game coming out in 2010 courtesy of Ignition. Do we think it will be particularly good? No, we do not. In fact, we’re kind of hoping it will be hilariously bad. The ESRB hasrecently ratedthe game, not only shedding light on some hilariously tasteless game details, but also confirming the title for PS3. On of the most interesting details is the fact that you get to play a serial killer during one stage: “In one flashback sequence, players are able to control the villain (the Raincoat Killer) as he uses an axe to kill the townsfolk — toxic gas has left them in a deranged state; the grainy black-and-white sequence depicts the townsfolk emitting red blood-spurts when hit, as their bodies disappear....

Final Fantasy XIII Agito screens for the three people interested

People talk a lot aboutFinal Fantasy XIIIandXIII Versus, but the rank outsider in Square Enix’sFabula Nova Pretentiousseries is by farXIII Agito, the handheld game about which little is known. It seems that not many care about Agito, but at leastFamitsugives a stuff and has somenew screensof this ambitous sounding portable game. As is typical of Square Enix, the graphics look beautiful by PSP standards. I do love how much support the company gives the PlayStation Portable, which is great for those of us who travel a lot and don’t always feel like indulging in shoehorned stylus controls....

Finally: Senran Kagura’s combat system in action

We’ve heard a lot about this Japanese, boob-focused, 2D brawler for the 3DS in the past, but up until now, we haven’t seen much of how the game plays. Its publisher has promotedSenran Kagurawithwebsites, promotional art, energy drinks, and teenage girls doing stuff, but the heart of the game, its combat system, has been more or less a mystery up until this point. That had me worried that the game wasn’t going to be very fun, which would be disappointing considering the game comes to us from the publisher of one of the Wii’s great 2D brawlers,Muramasa: The Demon Blade....

Fire Bracers serve up crispy orc in Orcs Must Die

Orcs aren’t unlike you or me. If you prick them, do they not bleed? If you tickle them, do they not laugh? If you shoot fireballs at them by way of magic gauntlets that shoot fireballs, do they not go up in flames and then die of third-degree burns and asphyxiation? Robot Entertainment’s upcomingOrcs Must Die!is a third-person action tower defense strategy title that has you (surprise!) killing orcs. Today, the developer is introducing the Fire Bracers, which allow players to set up walls of fire or directly burn orcs to a crisp....
