The P-Wing was a forerunner for the Super Guide

I’m using this bit of news more to point out that there is a newIwata Asksup over at Nintendo’s site, and if you haven’t been reading the series you really should. As it’s gone on it has become one of the more interesting articles on the web, and often has insights into modern and retro game design that don’t get shared too often. That and Iwata often makes terrible, terrible jokes....

The Star Fox team are great wingmen

Take the concept of Star Fox’s wingmen from Star Fox 64, apply them to a dating scenario and you get this. Honestly, I was laughing throughout the whole thing. It’s oozing with cheese, but I just can’t help but love it. [Thanks, -g-!]

The top ten virtual vacation spots in video gaming

First things first:the above picture is the ugliest pseudo-Photoshop job you will see all week. Secondly, if there’s one thing video games are great at, it’s functioning as an escape from everyday life. After a long, hard day at work or school, video games provide a simple and relaxing way of unwinding, escaping, and putting your mind at ease. However, some games are better at this than others. Some games aspire not only to entertain the player with a story or action, but to actually build an entireworld....

Tony Hawk Wii porting to PS2, but why?

In a strange turn of events only seen in the likes ofHotel Dusk, it seems that a Wii game, yes a Wii game, will be ported to the PlayStation 2.Go Nintendois reporting that Activision says the $9 million Wii seller will be ported over to the console that just won’t die. But the real question is, what’s the point? Without Wiimote functionality, is there any real attraction to this game?...

Uh, yes please: No Time To Explain

Hamza randomly sent this video to me — while on vacation, no less. Having him be the fetcher of news made this already great trailer that much better, since its vibe sort of meshes with his out-of-control Internet persona. But, I’m getting ahead of myself here. The footage is ofNo Time To ExplainfromtinyBuildGAMES. Count this as yet another flash project that has since grown into something much more substantial than originally planned....

UK Charts: Portal 2 wins, SOCOM 4 … not so much?

Last week was one of the biggest release weeks of the year so far, withPortal 2,Mortal KombatandSOCOM 4all hitting the streets.Portal 2andMortal Kombathave both managed to succeed, capturing the first and second chart sports respectively. Unfortunately,SOCOM 4has not fared so well, failing to crack the top twenty at all. This is unusual for a PS3 exclusivein the UK, with such games often making it into the top five. It seems highly probable that thePlayStation Network outagehas had a dire effect on the game’s sales....

Visceral Games bummed about Dead Space Extraction sales

According to a NeoGAF post from a Visceral Games employee- “It is a shame that no one bought this (Dead Space Extraction). As much as everyone made fun of Frank Gibeau’s ‘experiment’, it will actually influence the SKU plan with respect to the Wii”. So I guess we’ll be seeing less games likeDSEon the Wii from here on out, but is that a bad thing? Dead Space Extractionis agood game with a few fantastic moments, but it’s missing a lot of stuff that has proven to sell “M” rated games, on the Wii or otherwise....

Watch Gods Eater Burst’s anime prequel, now subtitled!

D3’s promotingGods Eater Bursthard, and one of its selling points is its more…I guess the word is itsslightly edgieranime style. I mean,Monster Hunteris plenty Japanese, but more in a goofy Capcom way. That doesn’t always fly with the belts-and-zippers crowd. They even knew that when the game came out, which was why a big ol’ fully-animated prequel was commissioned from ace anime studio Ufotable (they made the lovelyKara no Kyoukai – The Garden of Sinners, for those of you that care)....

PSP minis These prices are only good through Monday, August 9 — don’t miss out! A sliver of on-rails footage from Yar’s Revenge

Following up on thefirst detailsof Atari’sYar’s Revengeremake, we have a new video for the game. And what a strange game it is. (Although, really, the original was pretty far out — even back then.) We were told to expect a “third-person arcade shooter,” which, as we can see here, translates to on-rails shootery. It’d probably be bad form for me to judgeYar’s Revengebased on mere seconds of actual footage, but hey, nothing is stopping you guys from running wild....
