Dr Pepper and EA: free DLC for Mass Effect 2, others

Mountain Dew has long been the stereotypical gamer drink of choice (besides Bawls, I guess), but Electronic Arts has cooked up a marketing scheme to drive gamers away from Mountain Dew towards something that doesn’t taste like moose bile. Enter Dr Pepper: between now and March 31st and again between July 1st and December 31st, each 14-, 16-, and 20-ounce bottle of Dr Pepper will come with free downloadable content for popular EA-published games....

Dreamcast Collection titles hit Steam

The recentDreamcast Collectioncompilation disc for Xbox 360 featuredSega Bass Fishing,Sonic Adventure DX,Space Channel 5: Part 2, andCrazy Taxi. These games arenow up on Steam, and can be purchased individually at $8.99 a piece or bundled together for $29.99. Assuming they work as intended (you’d be surprised), these are mostly decent enough to justify the price. And they’re upscaled and widescreen-ified, to boot. That said, if Sega only puts out these re-releases and nothing else from the amazing Dreamcast library, talk about a slap to the face....

E3 08: Where has all the spectacle gone?

This coming week marks the first E3 back in the Los Angeles Convention Center since the industry show decided to downgrade and make things a little more personal. Last year the event took place in coastal Santa Monica. The area was beautiful, but not having the conference in one centralized location made things pretty chaotic at times. When I went down to the downtown Convention Center this morning to pick up my press badge, I expected to see a little glimpse of E3 as it once was....

E3 09: DJ Shadow attempts to kill my E3 productivity

Hey Activision, listen up — if you intend on having me cover any of your games at E3 this year, you need tonothave DJ Shadow — who appears in the upcomingDJ Hero— spinning records in your booth. Sure, I get it. It’s E3’s return to form, a big, flashy and loud show full of lights and sights that really embody how huge our industry really is. But how do you expect me to make it to my 1:00 P....

E3: Being Mr. Destructoid

At E3, one lucky fan was able to don the amazing Mr. Destructoid helmet. That lucky person was then able to hang out with me. I then used this magical moment as an excuse to go shoot videos of hot E3 girls. Typical Venom.

E3: Rhythm Heaven trailer further proves baboons rule

Those of you who have been keeping up with the newRhythm Heavenfor Wiiwill recognizemuch of this E3 trailer. The footage shown isn’t new, except for the final segment. That’s enough to leave me satiated for a while to come.

EA cans 3DS title, My Garden

Budding botanists can cancel their Nintendo 3DS orders now. Electronic Arts has announced that it has canceledMy Garden3DS. This sad news came during an EA event in New York City this week, yet no specific reason for the cancelation was given. For what it’s worth, folks who played the game in Tokyo last year when it was announced, said it was boring and the 3D was poorly implemented. Maybe that has something to do with it....

ECA wants you to inform the President about gaming

In case you don’t watch the news or read a newspaper to stay up-to-date on current trends — sadly, this is becoming an ever-increasing population — the United States is in the middle of revamping its healthcare system. A major part of this, according the experts, is switching from a healthcare system that takes care of people who are already sick to one that is more preventive and stops people from getting sick....

Eight non-horror videogames that frighten me

I’ve watched enough horror films to know that I keep coming back to them because of the adrenaline rush from having my morbid curiosities appeased. Iwantto see grisly ghouls and buckets of blood, and because I’m anticipating that stuff, I’m not shocked when they eventually appear. Aside from the odd jump scare, I don’t think I’ve ever been truly frightened by a horror film. Know whatdoesscare me? That scene inPinocchiowhen Lampwick transforms into a donkey, or the soul-piercing gaze of the Catbus fromMy Neighbor Totoro....

ESRB Left 4 Dead 2 description reads like a blog post

I have to say, whoever is writing these ESRB rating summaries lately is gettingsaucy. Following the absurd (and long… and awesome) descriptions of Gearbox’sBorderlandsand Double Fine’sBrutal Legendcomes this 260 word missive onLeft 4 Dead 2. According to theESRB, Valve’s sequel will feature “intestines spilling out of abdominal wounds; zombie jibs shooting in all directions; charred innards; and skeletal bits and unclaimed torsos.” The description goes on to put all of this violence into some perspective....
