YTMND Thursday: Real Sonic is real

I don’t know how or why the real Sonic fad picked up again, but I’m not complaining. Is it wrong that I want to spray paint a hedgehog blue and staple a extra tail on a fox and make them run through absurd obstacle courses and fight a giant fat man in a robotic suit at the end of each course? Probably. Hard to pick my favorite of the punch this week....

ZeniMax, the parent company of Bethesda Games, is becoming quite the little powerhouse of game developers. Not only do they own a few prominent developers, but the also recently acquired Shinji Mikami’s studio Tango Gameworks a few months ago. Nowadd to that listone more developer, Machinegames, which is run by veterans fromThe Chronicles of Riddickdeveloper Starbreeze Studios. The deal doesn’t seem to have been officially officially confirmed, but a previous tweet hinted at it and now Swedish business records are showing that Machinegames has officially filed to change its name to ZeniMax Sweden AB....

3DS region block confirmed, US won’t even read JP games

For some, this will be the worst news ever. For others it’ll come out to no more than a shoulder shrug. I’m somewhere there in the middle. Those hoping to import Japanese games for their US Nintendo 3DS are out of luck. Those wanting to play imports will have to buy a foreign system as a 3DS from one territory will not play games from another. Hell, it won’t even ‘see’ the games....

3DS sold just under 400,000 units during first week in US

Nintendo has revealed that the 3DS sold just under 400,000 units in its first week in the United States, failing to meet analyst predictions of 500,000 to 750,000 sales. The company wouldn’t give a specific figure, but said the system sold 100,000 units less than the DS did during its launch month. With the DS selling 480,000 during its first month, that would put the 3DS somewhere in the 380,000 range....

Arc the Lad, Alundra took one year to bring to PSN

In my mind I see the process of dumping a PlayStation game to the PlayStation Network as an almost instant one. Someone somewhere hits a button and the offering pops up for us to buy. The way I see it, the games are already done and there’s not much besides some simple porting code to do. Maybe I’m wrong. I’m definitely wrong in the case of two new RPGs for PSN,AlundraandArc the Lad....

For the most part, I’ve always featured everyday Joe’s onArt Attack Friday. This week, I’m changing things up by featuring a professional artist.Stanley “Artgerm” Lauis by far one of the most talented artists I have ever seen. It was actually surprising to me to see Artgerm’s work because I instantly recognized it from various magazine ads. It’s nice to finally put a name to the works I’ve seen before. When Artgerm isn’t updating hisDeviant, he’s doing work for his companyImaginary Friends Studious....

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 MP demo hits Xbox LIVE

Look twice at the just released “Demos” section on Xbox LIVE Marketplace this week. EA DICE has rolled out a multiplayer-onlyBattlefield: Bad Company 2trial instead of doing the whole “beta” thing like its currently doing over the PC and did “exclusively first”on the PS3 several months ago. Much like the betas, you’ll be playing “Rush Mode” across a lone map — Port Valdez in this instance. And like the beta, this peek at the game will end before the game hits in early March....

BREAKING: Liveblogging the opening of Tutan-Ramen’s tomb

As promised, Egyptian correspondent Geraldo Beedog is at the scene of today’s archaeological dig, prepared to cover the events that transpire upon the opening of King Tutan-Ramen’s tomb. The photo you see above is of heiroglyphics marking the tomb’s outer walls, reportedly depicting King Tutan-Ramen himself, being transported by one of his many servants in a vessel that has come to be referred to as “The Royal Jar.” Little is known about Tutan-Ramen, except that he appears to have been incredibly handsome....
